Topdon battery tester

I recently purchased a topdon battery tester. Testing a tractor that won't start 1 in 100 times randomly

What would cranking low translate to or what fault would it indicate

John Deere 6420 with original Bosch starter

Charging perfectly per the tester and multimeter

can be funny old thing these days with electronic fuel systems / ecu's i recently solved an intermittent starting issue by renewing and tightening up the battery earth clamp/ wiring.
wished id done it ages ago because the prob had been there for awhile and completely cured it.

Check wiring at starter motor after trying to start engine feel main positive and earth leads and solenoid to starter connection if any are hot that means high resistance which converts to heat remove clean and refit any that show signs of corrosion then retry, it could also indicate starter motor on it's way out, i had an old ford 8210 that was slow cranking and that was the short connection between solenoid and starter.

6420 should have a 629 battery I believe.. you sure it's on the right battery? 598cca sounds very low. A 629 is 900-1000cca

Indeed you are correct it is actually a Lucas 665 battery with a 800cca as per Mr Google.

Second battery it seems to have finished off. Life span of both batteries 10months.

Any ideas

Test done after stopped for 30mins. Prior to stopping was driving around the road for 2hrs moving cattle, plenty revs etc

Tractor has an isolator and it is turned off overnight

Put a proper battery on it thats right spec and a 3.4kw Mahle starter motor and that will be the end of the trouble.

I wouldn't rush for a new starter as first call personally. Put a 629 on it, make sure the shipping plugs aren't still in the breather holes. Check your alternator isn't over charging before you think about a new starter.
