Hi all. I've recently begun to help at a local market garden here in Bristol. I'm pitching in with very simple tasks like hand tool maintenance etc. Last week, the growers asked me if I could help with their tractor and I thought that might be possible so long as I read the manual, metaphorically and literally, first.
Step one: what make and model?!

Thanks for your concern, Ollie (y)
I realise straight away that this is all a closed book to me, however I can reassure you folks that I'll be approaching with due caution. My actions will be strictly limited to helping with simple tasks when asked and under supervision. Let's hope my full-time colleagues have been on all the right courses!

Ideally someone who actually knows how to operate it should give you an induction before you use it. Simple things like switch off the PTO (and let the rotors stop) before doing anything with the blades on the topper. If lifting the topper up axle stand before you get underneath it. PTO guard procedures etc.

That's actually a basic H&S requirement-no one should operate a piece of equipment until they have been trained how to.

Probably the most ignored as well.

Thanks ever so, everybody... never knew there was so much variety - even amongst what seems to be a popular model. I'll go up the shed this week and get some better pictures.
