Touareg?

I currently have a Freelander 2, which I am very happy with, that might be about to come to the end of its life. I am pondering what to replace it with. I don't need to tow more than 2t so another Freelander is an option but I think I would prefer something heavier/more capable so I keep my options open.
Small budget of up to £5k (ish). The Touareg is looking like a credible option. I assume they are reliable? Are they capable off road (if I put AT tyres on)? Any common faults to look out for? I know it will be expensive to tax and thirsty on fuel.
Thanks

Had one for many years 60,000 miles & untouched, best SUV vehicle I've had better than discoveries, great to drive both on the road & in the field, the one downside is the angle of the roof as you enter front seats eventually you will learn to duck your head.

Only real gotcha on the 3.0 V6 TDI is timing chains and camshaft wear. Anything that sounds funny or doesn't go well, walk away.

If it was my money for that budget I’d go Range Rover. You can get some serious low mileage tbv8 for that money. Way better than toured and so many spurious parts about.
I might if I can find a decent one, so many have been messed around with. I did have one a few years ago but some idiot wrote it off by driving headlong in to it in a mini!

That's not a lot of money for a big car. Why would you assume they're reliable? Let's say they are reliable, do you think a 5 grand example will be?

Did I drink too much?
Am I losing tough?
Did I build this sh!t Touareg?

CART-SPRINGS is what springs to mind
Meh!
Some of the comments in the Ford V Ferrari film are very apt in the construction of both vehicles.
LR has lost the plot but the little Freelander 2 was not awful.
The VW is ‘orrible and simply a compromise.
Much that I avoid Frod I would suggest a Ranger. Ask The Duck. He’s on the case👍

Grand Vitara with the 2.4 petrol engine.

You'll get a decent one for that money, proper off-road ability, and reliability on a different level to all the other vehicles mentioned.

PS - don't even think about the diesel one!

Simples Xc90 end of discussion.
I had a V90 estate for a number of years, 3L straight six petrol, rear wheel drive, built like a tank and went like the clappers, last of the 'proper' Volvos according to some on the Volvo forum.

Jump forward a number of years and my daughter had an XC60, not impressed at all, not a bit robust suspension wise, didn't feel robust, springs, bushings, linkages, ball joints needing replaced on a regular basis, not especially practical either. She really wanted to love it but eventually seen sense and got rid.

In theory an XC90 could do a decent job for me, but I'd be worried that I'd end up with something closer to the XC60 than my old V90.

I believe the Xc60 has a shared platform with Ford so that might explain things
