Cowabunga will approve of the permanent 4wd (as opposed to the part time on car LC versions)

Similar to a Landie with that feature

Should make a nether tow vehicle than a DC pickup too

Only problem with the Toyota version is that it locks the centre diff by default when you change into low range. Land Rover never did that, and for good reasons. Neither do Mercedes with their GL/GLS Class or the GLE where fitted with optional two speed transfer box.

So an automatic transmission is preferable with its torque convertor, in order to avoid manoeuvring heavy trailers in low with a locked diff on hard grippy surfaces. Low range may be unavoidable in some circumstances though, such as reversing the maximum load up a steep yard or lane.

Hated that as well!... 2 doors are ok..ish but 4 doors is silly
On the contrary. The rear side doors are so useful for getting at kit stored behind the bulkhead. I have toolbox one side. Regularly used kit the other. Saves you crawling in the back over everything to get to something.

On the historic pre Duck models it was/is possible to fit a switch to stop the centre diff locking in low range.

There is a way, yes, but it also disabled the ABS and something else, I forget what. I did something with a connector outside the transfer box, so couldn’t switch back and forth easily, which was unsatisfactory from a road safety point of view. But it could be done, yes, and I did it for a short while until I found the drawbacks

I had not envisaged using low range on the road very often. More useful for low speed shunting and reversing.

It cuts out ABS completely, high range included. Or it did the way I did it did, which was the only way known at the time.

ABS does work in low range. It has an off-road mode in low range where it allows the wheels to lock at short intervals, otherwise it would never stop on slippery slopes. In truth the braking system on 100 series was never in the same league as that fitted to the Range Rover 2001> and stopping distance, stability and ABS performance are inferior. Not dangerously so, but very noticeably so when an emergency occurs.

I guess Bri-Stor might be the problem? If they've got 500 vans for BT or Network Rail to do, 17 LC's will be well down the pecking order. No consolation I know.

I’ve just picked mine up over the weekend, SWB commercial utility to replace my Skoda Octavia estate which never let me down....it better have the famed Toyota reliability!

I should mention I found an ex-demo from a Toyota dealer in Lincoln by absolute luck. My local dealer said 6 month wait for a new one, apparently they are waiting for batches of 10 orders before doing the conversions.

ordered mine from wr davies telford but through the CLA which is a land owners association if you order through them you get a better discount but so far a better discount of nothing !!
I have contacted bri stor and yes they do convert BT vans etc but not really down to them have talked also to Stephen Craig at Toyota fleet sales and the problem appears to be they arrive at berry port i believe get sent to bri stor then become lost in the system no one can find out where they are the cars disappear off the system get returned to berry port and then appear to be distributed to anywhere but not by the looks of it in the order sequence you placed your order . I contacted customer complaints took nearly 2 weeks to get back to me and said i had found out more than they could and did not know where the car was.
here's one for you had a phone call a week later from someone from Toyota saying due to the number of variations that's why mine was not in the first batch when i said the only variation in lwb you can have was with or without a towbar and out of 17 vehicles 10 at bri stor were lwb decuma grey she said that when ordered from japan they might not order what people order. So when people place orders with Toyota uk they place order in Japan not the vehicles they have orders for but what they want to order really ?
You may ask me why i have put up with this i can only give you £13,000.00 worth

I have only told you half the story did not want to bore people with details but it's even worse than that you really could not write it. Once this week is over and the vehicle is NOT delivered in this tax year i will never attempt to buy a Toyota again has stressed me to the limit.
would not recommend buying a Toyota based on my experience unless you have a lot of patience and when the gentleman above said now they are telling you waiting time is 6 months do you really believe that ?
I wish they had told me that 6 months ago i would have bought something else instead been left hanging till the last minute with false promises and too late to do anything about it now so happy early Christmas Mr tax man.
