Trailed vs Self Propelled Sprayer

How well are guys finding their trailed sprayers follow the tractor tracks?

Knight Trailblazer here and it's not very good at following the tractor tracks. Track width set at 2m (79") and it is still poor to follow even when on row crops.

What steering system is on it, we've had two mechanical tracking drawbars and now onto a steering axle, with a bit of setting up all of them work pretty well, you can confuse the axle by doing a tight turn one way then the other as it can't keep up, but other than that its fine.

It's a steering axle. Machine is only a year old. Must ring Knight and see what they say.

For those running Horsch sprayers on a single set of wheels all year, what wheels are you using and what is the lowest pressure you can run at. I can find a Mitas VF580/85R42. Would ideally like a tall 600, but there doesn't seem to be a VF option.

Also, for those such as @Tom H, I have been advised that having the boom control with 5 sensors and articulation / levelling part way down the boom is unnecessary at 36m on Cambridgeshire fields. Would you agree?

Personally. I would still have it. But if you are Fen flat, I could see where they are coming from.

My Chafer Sentry will track perfectly at anything less than 75% lock on the tractor. The long wheelbase of the sprayer means the rear axle won't turn tight enough. Have you tried adjusting the stops?

I guess you are on steering axle rather than drawbar? Mine is on drawbar and you can alter delay sensitivity etc to get it spot on.

Some have flow restrictors to alter the speed of turning so they follow the tractor better. The flow rates need to be different each way due to the uneven volumes of oil each side of the ram head (the displacement of the rod).

why would you run such a machine on a tractor with tiny 30" wheels on it when you can run one on 42's ?
They look like 34" rims to me.

Why would you run such a machine on a tractor with a cab placed over a rigid axle (even if they are on 42" rims) when you can put it behind a fully suspended tractor with a even more comfortable centrally mounted cab?

34 is still a lot smaller than 42 and not 710 wide either - you want as much rubber under a sprayer as possible, especially a trailed one

I won't start on reliability either being and ex Fastrac owner although Im sure they (can only have) got much better these days !

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
