Just wondering what those of you who haul silage a fair distance have as trailers? Good 10 mile one way run. Average crops Jag 890. Is it 8,10,12 trailers?

Sort of what we were thinking. First time drawing in from so farOne trailer per mile, depends on whether chopper is paid per acre or hour, if by the hour or wet grass you may want another?

Sounds expensiveMind you, last week a local contractor was picking for a dairy farm near me ... say 30 mile round trip .. with 22 trailers.

2 choppers?Mind you, last week a local contractor was picking for a dairy farm near me ... say 30 mile round trip .. with 22 trailers.

Very true. All the farms are 10ish miles, but range from 25 to 40 minutesVery dependent on terrain and road type and the size of your chopper!
6 miles in one direction here is 12 minutes.
6 miles opposite direction would be 25 minutes.
So not the 6 tonne bateson's with timber sides then?? Bugger!!!you’d want the biggest trailers possible
Maybe 8 ton Ken wootons will be more suitableSo not the 6 tonne bateson's with timber sides then?? Bugger!!!
That big!!?Maybe 8 ton Ken wootons will be more suitable
I got bigger flat trailer than some contractors who charge for hauling bales over 20 miles!Maybe 8 ton Ken wootons will be more suitable
Having harvested some very variable forage maize last autumn over a weigh bridge with 14&16 ton trailers, I’d be mindful of weights; we asked the chopper driver to cut load size when some green areas of the field grossed 42t over the bridge. It’s all fine until someone has an accident...you’d want the biggest trailers possible
