UK and Japan agree historic free trade agreement

Damn, now we'll have to compete with Wagu/Kobo cattle and I can't afford to keep them in beer!
I don’t know much about Japan other than what my son tells me having spent a lot of time there and looking to move there for a period of he can, he says Aus beef is seen as the premium beef any restaurant can serve. That concurred with what I found also to be the case in Asia.

They are factually correct so why are they stupid? What the point in talking trade if we don’t talk about these deals in relative terms.
The inference is 'so what?', having a dig rather than making a point; and the increase to the economy of £15bns on £3.13tns is more like 0.5% than 0.001%, so your 'factually correct' point is, in fact, wrong... (y)

(Happily, it would pretty much cover tariffs incurred on our trade with the EU in the event of no deal :))

In passing, where were you with your love of factual correctness when your hero Ashy was telling lies?

And, writing of the hysterical liar himself - meaning @Ashtree - but to you and others who have been whining about the end of the world and the UK never being trusted following our decision to change the law here... think on this, right at the peak of the news-cycle about your latest whine - not later when it's forgotten - Japan has decided that the UK is entirely trustworthy and has happily signed a FTA with us. Surely you're not going make some sort of unpleasant jibe against the Japanese are you, such as their being a bit thick, easily duped, or dodgy Asians who don't care about that sort of thing?

The Japanese have the third biggest economy in the world, are very well-versed in trade negotiations and are as sharp as any country out there, the fact is they can see the EU's game, they know and trust us, and are the first in what will soon be a very long list of trade partners; some don't like that fact.

Tonkatsu tonight, and some rather good sake too, I think!

What stupid posts, so what? Why did the EU want a free trade deal with Japan considering its relatively small proportion of trade? UK EU trade will continue as it is as near as damn it, diminishing each year, you two know this and just spew the bile regardless.
I can’t see the bile. Mind pointing it out after your Sake?

This is great news and for such a massive target market of the Uk it’s some achievement. Although it is only an “agreement in principle“ and not yet a signed FTA. But nonetheless it’s a great boost for the UK economy as (extract) “ UK businesses will benefit from tariff-free trade on 99% of exports to Japan. Government analysis shows that a deal with Japan will deliver a £1.5 billion boost to the UK economy and increase UK workers’ wages by £800 million in the long run.”...........

As I see it the total deal is worth about £15 billion. £12 billion of that being beneficial to the Japanese who are able to import cars for example tariff free in to the UK whilst £3 billion is UK exports into Japan. And the government put this up as a successful negotiation, only if you are Japanese perhaps. :banghead:

As the classless legal guy in here mentioned in an earlier post, the Japanese certainly are seasoned trade deal operators, and sharp as a tack in that respect.
So yeah, a Japan 12 : UK 3, isn’t any surprise whatsoever. I’m actually surprised the underdogs scored 3 to be honest. So well done in fairness to Liz. Could have been a whitewash!
Credit the Japanese for their famed politeness and good manners. I’m sure they didn’t really want to stuff 15 past Liz.
Next up USA away! Big ask that one. They have a very seasoned team, and unlike the Japanese, they totally lack any sense of class or politeness. They will stuff their opposition every time, and all day long. It’s a matter of keeping down the score.
Liz still has that load of Stilton to get out of the Hi-Ace! Don’t see the yanks buying it though! Do you?

A few weeks ago I posted that quite a few on here (and not just our Irish friend) would be quite happy to see their country suffer just so that they could say I told you so, I was told that wasn't the case but the amount of criticism of what can only be good news shows I got it right.

Correction! People on here, point out the blindingly obvious, that the direction of travel of the Boris gang, IS going to make your country suffer. Pointing out the maths of the equation. Simple.
But yeah, others on here fixated on some outdated dogma, choose to shoot the messenger, as it were.
Wake up ....
Me, I point out those dangers mentioned above, BUT, try to alleviate your worst worries, by telling you that Boris won’t actually crash the car ... he will do a brilliant, albeit humiliating last second U turn.
Stay with me here ..... you will say in the end .... how did he get all that so right?

It's seeing the country sold down the river by a fu*king idiotic government made up of halfwits and fools, but this is only the start.

I'm afraid I may lose all the wealth I've accumulated since we've been in the EU. We won't be no better off, we won't be no worse off, the system is designed so that we 'get by'

HMG release states the benefit to the Uk economy is 1.5 billion - as such your Ref to 15 billion is factually wrong.

The figure on HMG's website is £15bns... :scratchhead: (probably remoaner civil servants playing funny beggars)
Your getting The “trade value“ and “uk economic benefit” confused. They are not the same, and the website makes clear that whilst the deal is worth an extra 15 billion (thats joint benefit), the UK will benefit by 1.5 billion. It’s there in clear black and white.
