Used MF 50HX Price?

Hi all

Just been to see a J reg 50HX digger. Now I know f-all about diggers but I can’t decide whether it’s worth the ask of £9.5k.
Clock showing 2.7k hours but the guy seemed unaware if it was working 🧐. A bit of play on back actor slew (maybe a couple of inches). A small weep from one front clamshell ram on loader. Side shift doesn’t work but seems to pump well hydraulically. Brakes a touch spongey but she started well from cold and not overly smokey. Comes with 3 buckets
Any thoughts?
Sounds dear to me,
What would you say is reasonable for it?
Right the hours on clock are obviously not correct sounds like round the clock may be more likely eg add 10,000 hrs on Massey diggers are ok but do have there weaknesses, slack on slew? Is it rams or slew motor? rams are better as for price sounds like it needs a bit spent on it so I reckon too dear at £9.5k more like £7k but really a guessing game without seeing it and if you admit you know nothing be very cautious it could be a money pit. I sold a nice 50 hx s about 11 years ago needed nothing bar tyres on rear for £7k so would expect at £9.5k today to buy something that needs very little done to it, do some more research imo

Thanks, good info there. Like I say I don’t know enough to be confident buying it so I’m going to leave it I think. Too many doubts about it

I wouldn’t be scared of a MF digger, but if i as buying id look for a black or grey cab JCB. Plenty to choose from and good spares availability be it new or second hand. They were also pretty bullet proof. Should get a good one sub £9k
TBF if it was like for like, on farm, I would go for the Massey as they are a bit lighter and nimble on the soft stuff. Horses for courses though and each to their own.

i don’t disagree, they were very good and capable diggers, but as for owning one now, for parts alone, it has to be jcb. Far better parts availability than the old massey diggers

Not owning either now I can't really comment. I think parts can be sourced on the MF sites. Currently running a 1998 NH 85 which has over 11000 hours on and is a good tool.

£9.5K seems a lot for a J Reg 50HX.

Really must get our K Reg 60HX going if that’s what they are worth. Think it needs a new torque converter and wasn’t sure whether it was worth fixing but if that’s what they are worth probably should.

Would be surprised if clock is working. 2700 hours is nothing for a 27 year old digger. If that’s correct might just be worth the asking price, if it’s not working then definitely not.
