Vaderstad rapid

I'm just wondering about using a rapid to direct drill in grass seed. I know they aren't much good for DD on cereals but how would they fair on grass seeds followed by flat roller?

I would look at a moore or something but the front discs would be good for coming out of summer turnips etc.

Cheers

I did 20 acres with ours last year before we sold it and I was more impressed with the results of that than I was with the 300 acres of spring barley I did as well .

It was into first cut silage stubble it did drag a little but of grass between some coulters and they're discs but overall did a very good job and it's the best that field has been fir years now for grass

Used one for stitching more seed into an old ley. Lift the front discs up and just use the coulters to put the seed in. The wider row spacing meant we cross drilled it at half seed rate each way.

Have direct drilled spring barley with ours this year and its come very well, have 40 acres of grass to do and will be using the rapid for that also. This appeared on faceache today

If it helps we do our overseeding after the last cut of silage, in dry soil conditions so we don't get any smearing of the slot and the flat rolls follow to close the slot. I feel that overseeding between cuts would cause to many losses when the newly emerged grass is sensitive to wheelings etc.

Drill shallow, the seed is happy to sit there untill a rain event and then off it goes. We also have the option of the umbilical and dirty water if needed. Once established sheep/lambs follow in Nov/Dec.

Awesome. Thanks for the replies at least I know I'm not barking up the wrong tree. Cross drilling isn't really a worry either as I get the contractor to do it anyway at the moment
