Vet cost crisis

Unlike "pets", most and i say most, keep farm animals to make money? and as many other factors over the last 30 odd years, vet costs increase, people will just pack it all in? why because its just not worth all the work worry and investment to pay others? these last few months of wet weather is another reason as well? At least with no livestock, or hardly any, you havnt the currant worry of wet weather, animals calving, feed feed feed? straw and the relentless work? for what?

Before or after they leaked??

I've actually handled are range of different medical prosthetic products (sample products)- before they were implanted of course. They are surprisingly tough and generally won't leak as such these days. I can't tell you how often complications occur but generally they are limited to them shifting around or out of place (i.e. due to trauma to the thorax as in a car accident etc) or the skin around the area doesn't retain the desired shape or tension so you get a sub optimal cosmetic result.

In common with things like hips and knee joints, a lot of thinking goes into these products and then tend to have a longer lifespan than you might thing or are better thought out with regards to how they might be replaced.

Iā€™d be surprised if these mega vet corps arenā€™t in very close communications with the pet insurance corps, I see it as a giant Ponzi scheme, vets put the prices so high that it makes insurance look like a no brainer, so everybody pays in (insurance wins), then Fido falls ill and the vets charge the Earth cos they know theyā€™ll get it, vets win. Everyone else is a bit poorer.

The amount of money people are willing to spend on their pets to me is not a good indicator of the mental health/resilience/stability of the nation. As families break down, animals are more and more being anthropomorphically substituted to fill the voids.

Personally I blame Noel Fitzpatrick, the ā€œSupervetā€, for 90% of this.

Madness that people spend Ā£000s on their pet when Ā£70 gets it euthanised (or 20p if you DYI)
Totally agree . 40-50 years ago pet insurance was unheard of. N.P. very clever Veterinary Surgeon but i question the ethics of some of what he does. Now he is advertising Pet Insurance.
