Weedwipers in a Solar Farm

Apologies to those who may have seen this post in the Livestock thread!

I saw these at Lamma in 2019 and thought they looked a good bit of kit, strong and simple, also priced reasonably... Any users here, failed or suceeded with one?

I am giving serious consideration to getting one, to use on grassland near a watercourse, and also to see if I can use one inside a Solar Farm site* between the panels, for controlling Rushes with Roundup. The Micron is a particularly low profile machine, which would be useful for getting under the panel itself which can get as low as 700mm on the leading edge.

I spoke with Micron and the machine can not be offset quite as much as I would like.... in theory, but I can see that there will not be much left unwiped, that would need a spot spray afterwards! A 3m machine will suffice with our narrow alleys.

*Hopefully, I will be in the running for teh contract.

What width are your panels?
6 m may be too wide.

2 m won’t have enough over hand i doubt, remember the biggest issue is growth under the lower side.

we spray horizontally from the open side instead

6m way too wide. The Micron can be used as 1, 2 or 3m. Mounted, I reckon it would push a full metre under the lower side.

The aim was try and reduce spraying, especially on the Rushes, and wipe with Glyphosate instead. We have a LOT of rushes.... as a result of knackered drainage. Then a pasture herbicide to any nettle and thistle left, possibly MCPA, if there are many rushes under the panel.

I got caught out once on the width of the panels, they are not all the same!

it makes sense for reeds. Brambles and woody plants are my main concern, if they take hold between the legs it will be hard to get rid of them

Noted on the panel alley widths... :)

The sheep will hopefully keep other stuff down. Blackthorn from teh hedges is a problem, but a pass with the sprayer helps....
