What a waste

I now graze acres and acres of orchards with my sheep that haven't been picked for years.

Such a shame and waste, but at least my sheep listen out for the thud of an apple landing and soon hoover them up.

Cheaper to buy in foreign apples than the cost of pruning and picking in England.

It’s a funny old world, it seems just about any food can be produced elsewhere in the world and exported here for less than our cost of production yet start a thread on here on workers wages and it seems farm wages are way below many folks expectations even when well above minimum wage.

This orchard used to bring in on ave 5 Or 6 grand after harvesting costs. Now no market for the apples. Contract with local cider producer not renewed as they no longer want traditional varieties and they can import Apple juice in dried form very cheeply from France . Turned cattle in this morning . They will eat them as they drop !
The world has gone crazy, perfectly good apples ending up as cattle treats and cider been made from dried french waste ?? The owners of the cider company must have very little intrest in supporting local produce or in selling a quality product. There is a world of difference between good cider and cheap looney soup . Guess its the looney soup market their after .

It is a shame to see good local produce go to waste as it seems to be unprofitable. The French seem to be able to make it work ad do many other fruit producing countries, those that are profitable have three things the UK does not have. Marketing, Marketing, Marketing.

But its not just cider apple trees, its apple trees in general. You can't give them away, I was only talking to a friend about it this morning. And regardless of what cider apples taste like I still bet none were thrown away 80 years ago.
my kids like apples, just not the ones that grow in our garden it seems
