Low temp.

All the grass in our silage fields are yellow tipped where they’ve been burnt by frost
Still enough moisture at depth but retained/unused nitrogen in the plant is a concern

Been frosty nights for at least a fortnight here with today being the first warm day in as long.
No doubt a bit of warm rain would do some good but it’s the cops that’s been holding things back

Bloody spell check, should be cold😂
It changed it to cops again 😡

Havnt seen moisture for 6 weeks and that was 1 day, it was dry for 3-4 weeks before that too.
Temperature’s are good, kids are in shorts in school and I havnt worn a thermal top in weeks

have had 38mm past 100 days, this day last year we'd had 710mm by now! This year to date, 156mm

Hoping for a 1st cut in 2 weeks 🤷🏻‍♂️. If stretched out it’s about 15 inches tall. Very heavy soil and this field was put to grass 3 years ago after 50 years as arable is actually called Meadow so grass suits it. Lighter land grass looks atrocious with at least 50% less growth.

Yikes. What is the plan?
Just graze really slowly, thankfully we have the cover to do that.
Work on water effectiveness, ie we probably grew 4000kgDM/ha on under 40mm of rainfall, where a faster round you might grow ½ of that or less.

All the dairies in the valley are drying off or have dried off, bar one who will milk til late May

we seldom get a dry April, often we go dry but it's generally always run the cherries by this stage

it will rain, it always does!
