What are people going to grow. I'm definitely dropping revelation and Siskin and going by what people are saying skyfall wants dropping too. That leaves Leeds! Is it wise to have 3-4 varieties I've never tried before coming on to the farm all in the same year!

why drop revelation sown in sept its not as late as folks make out and id be careful with a lot of leeds as weve found if its ripe it sheds easily so wouldnt want a lot in front of the combine capacity in a catchy time so dropped it last yr

Always found leeds flatters to deceive. Never a disaster, but never produced how it looked.

Maybe should have sown it a bit thinner. Dropped it anyway.

Have ordered some Kerrin, still looking for a replacement for Santiago, Dickens has been closest over last 3 years, Reflection dropped last year, Graham still to harvest looks promising, but Santiago still looking like the best wheat on farm. If it ever stops raining we will see when it's in the shed.

I'm sticking with Santiago as a 2nd wheat, still banging out some great yields,Reflection is putting in some pretty impressive yields here again(y).I know its very dirty and costs, and looks cr*p all year but when it fills a shed up who cares,so will get a stay of execution, agronmist is going to love me:greedy::greedy:.
Siskin is also matching Reflection but where it lodged its dire, had a decent pgr too and that was grown on some thin heathland so thats on the back burner for now.
Evolution is definitely on the way out here, very disappointing.
I've got some Graham still too cut,it does looks good, but cannot tell till the combine gets in it.
There is a couple of new one's I'm looking at but seed is limited so might have missed the boat.

What do you think of Kerrin as a Santiago replacement?

Tempted to try some Freiston. Huge 'Revelation' like ears, but won't need to celebrate it's birthday before harvest.

But then again, I've seen too many 'fantastic looking' varieties in trials that then grow with a completely different physiology 'on farm' 12 months later. The same feeling as when you 'pull' a 'super model', but you wake up with Kat Moon from East Enders...

and your problem is..?????
The indecision. Do you try and tip toe out of 'Greggs' without being noticed at 4am, or do you double up for coffee and a breakfast muffin ? :sneaky:

On a more serious note, as a member of 'the trade' what varieties have caught your eye?
And what varieties will you want to buy in 12 months time?

Dear me - asking a miller what they actually want? :D

Siskin or Lili? Trinity or Illustrious? Diego or Graham?

I've been known to force myself to eat the breakfast muffin, or more often than not, the cheese and ham toasty. I've never been one to practice much self restraint.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
