Sorry missed that bit. Yes dd with Weaving gd. Will that rape affect the pre em?Providing you’re DD’ing it. Then glyphosate (in with pre em) a day or two after drilling.
Plus plenty of slug pellets.
Have you a link to your YouTube? The field has been very clean in the last 2 years but was very bad in patches for bg in 2013 and that was why I tried no-till first of allI'm gonna put my two penneth in here.
I drilled into foot high rape volunteers one year, there's a video on my YouTube channel I think, the blackgrass was very bad in the thickest areas the following spring .
So I don't think the pre em got to the soil properly.
However, with the little disturbance of the gd, it might not matter so much.
The field is 90% fenced and we have plenty of sheep but it’s the other side of the village to where our sheep are so not that keen on carting them for a short period. Probably need a few hundred to eat it off quick enough we did run 600 up there when it was grass but got into a bit of trouble in the villageSave on the glyphosate, I’ve got sheep on mine again this year, will drill straight in once we’ve kicked them off, as others have said, pellets will be needed, I did pre and post last year which seemed better than the year before where I just did post, also if conditions allow which they did last year, I’ll roll with paddles pre drilling.
Yes you want a good number on there and they take awhile to get used to it, spend first week cleaning up the margins, thankfully moving sheep about isn’t my problem, they are neighbours sheep, only too keen for the grazingThe field is 90% fenced and we have plenty of sheep but it’s the other side of the village to where our sheep are so not that keen on carting them for a short period. I’d also agree with the worry of pre em working on such thick cover, just seems to me it couldn’t cover the soil, possible the guys that do it don’t use pre emYes you want a good number on there and they take awhile to get used to it, spend first week cleaning up the margins, thankfully moving sheep about isn’t my problem, they are neighbours sheep, only too keen for the grazing
Used to be my signature under every post.Have you a link to your YouTube? The field has been very clean in the last 2 years but was very bad in patches for bg in 2013 and that was why I tried no-till first of all
Save on the glyphosate, I’ve got sheep on mine again this year, will drill straight in once we’ve kicked them off, as others have said, pellets will be needed, I did pre and post last year which seemed better than the year before where I just did post, also if conditions allow which they did last year, I’ll roll with paddles pre drilling.
Very annoying isn’t it. I will ask my brother but guessing he won’t want to upset the ewes at tupping don’t think we have enough lambs to graze itlovely fields of volunteer rape around here such a waste not grazing them......puzzles me why flea beetle don't affect them .....or slugs for that matter
Same here seriously hardDrilling on the green sounds great but have been severely bitten in the past by slugs so i'd proceed with caution on a small area until your happy about what works on your land. I'm seeing exactly the same as your photos in terms of slugs in stems etc even though volunteers only show minimal grazing so decided to spray off yesterday as i think we'll get an infinitely better kill pelleting ahead of drilling as well as inevitably after too. Ground like concrete too; need rain.
