Which bale trailer?

Pricing new trailers and seem to have narrowed down to 2 options. New 30ft 16t Bailey from local dealer with hydraulic sides vs a recon 33ft artic trailer from Hancock Trailer Conversions without hyd sides.

Basically trying to figure out if it's worth the extra £6k for the new Bailey. We don't cart much straw or hay at the moment but move a lot of silage in the winter. The hyd sides are appealing to save messing round with straps, and it would guarantee road legality. Usually just strap front and rear with just a single layer on a central 2nd row.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

still waiting for our bailey bale trailer with sides on. Never turned up as yet, shame we couldnt see how good it was as we might have bought another for next harvest. Oh and they wanted to include a 3% price increase a couple of months after it was ordered!!!! .

triaxle on mini super singles
8,ft 4 ,wide wheels off set right to edge of body
row of sockets fabricated into floor and either put posts up where top bales sit or a goal post like affair so you can strap to them
did one like this 25 year ago
and alan simpson built a very low draw bar trailer with similar rig for doubling silo bales or when had quads on 6 high
then you can pull uprights out and have a clear flat in stead of carting a load of gangly gates and weight about

I've a 28ft Bailey on mini super singles. They make a nice trailer, as good as anybody Id say. I personally am not a fan of artic conversions, unless done to a very high standard, they are often too flexible, and too heavy,(only allowed 18.39ton behind tractor) and they usually dont keep their look as well.
Most manufacturers use similar running gear, and its only a flat platform on top so given the same basic spec how different can they be?
As for the sides, they look cool, and I can see the speed advantage, but I would question if the load is fully restrained as far as the law goes??
Nothing actually holding bales down if the whole lot went over??
And round here you'd get done for not tying a load down to the deck. :scratchhead: :scratchhead:

We had our hydraulic side trailer since the end of June. I can honestly say it’s the best purchase we’ve ever done. We used to put 5 straps on our load to put 14 round bales on our old trailer, now we carry 16 without straps.
The way the trailer squeezes the bales together I very much doubt one would move in the case of a tip over
I guess a lot of it comes down to how much you use it though. We move about 3000 - 4000 big bales a year between bringing them into the yard off the field and then delivering bales back out to customers throughout the year so our trailer is used a lot.
We bought an AW trailer and have been really happy with it.

That would really tick me off, price increase when they can,t keep up with demand, when will it end, all these manufactures keep on putting their prices up, round balers have gone up 10k in 7 years.

I’d go new Bailey. The Hancock’s are massively overpriced. If you can’t justify the extra £6k get it without sides, then they’ll be the same price.
I bought an obe nothing fancy but does for straw and same price as anything that was secondhand 10year old.

I’ve only seen one hydraulic sided trailer that is actually legal on the road with no straps. It wasn’t a Bailey.

Artic conversions are fine, but heavy and can be a lot more unstable if extra crossbeams aren’t fitted.

If I had to choose between the two I’d meet halfway and go for a new Bailey without the sides.

It would me too. I can’t believe that a company making trailers to their standard in the numbers they do wouldn’t have the steel either in stock or at least bought forward for a few months production at least

I had to wait for my marshall as it was a one with the 445 tyres on and low ride height but they stood on with price with no quibbles. Very happy with it
