Who do you insure with?

Is anyone finding NFUM dropping their price at the first sign of healthy competition? Shouldn’t they give that rate to all of their customers not just the ones who get quotes?
Yes they are. Buying in business and will slash prices if you mention another insurer. Makes you wonder what the real price is. Use a decent broker who knows the market and will shop around

Just renewed wih County, I left a couple of years ago but had a problem with cover. Acres were cheaper than County, but County matched it.

I've been paying for 'engineering inspections' for a loadall organised through the insurance. They've been £250 for basically sod all, but a local dealer will do a loler test for £150.

This makes me so angry as a broker myself they should offer you the best cover meeting your demands and needs at the best premium. This is why the insurance industry gets a bad reputation.

Isn't that a bit tough on Acres using them to drive the price down?
I wasn't using them to drive the price down, I would of happily changed, but County matched it and they did sort me out when the insurer wouldn't provide extra cover. What's the etiquette? I don't really shop round, just ask for best price first, but insurers don't seem to work the same way.

Have been with Bluefin, which became Jelf and recently rebranded as Marsh Commercial for forever. Had a quote from Farmers and Mercantile this time, reassuringly there wasn't a great deal between the policies.

This also sometimes happens to me... very frustrating especially when you provide the best quotation in quick time and the client still goes back to their current broker to relay the premium. I don't understand it myself, but I suppose people think its a hassle to move insurers/brokers but in reality if your with a good broker they do the hard work for you.

Do you insure all types of ag livestock operations ? I see your not a million miles from me, we are currently with the NFU and have been for many years. Our premiums renew on 1sept and iam going to shop around this year, with us paying on monthly DD are we able to move before our renewal date ?

Best price first time for me. So basically County were taking the pee out of you by not giving you their best price, but you kept you business with them when they matched someone else's price. I'd be asking for a refund for last x years and then I'd consider renewing with them at a minimum.

Honest question - why have you stayed when you know they have been ripping you off (or taking advantage)?

Because County had already made a visit, I'd only spoke to acres by phone. The difference was down to very little once I removed the £250 engineering inspection which I mentioned in my first post.

I read that and get it. But did them not giving you best price first time ( and therefore not having ever having done that) not leave a bad taste?

I hate being taken advantage of and it happens a lot. to me They weren't visiting you out of the kindness of their hearts!

Not really, I expect it from insurers.

The insurer visited as I requested, I know that takes a lot of time and costs money, but I would rather go through things face to face.
