Who's got all the containers?

There seems to be a shortage of everything here at the moment, I still haven't got the sofa I bought in the boxing day sales:cry: The biggest shortage though is empty containers, then ships to cart them off when they've been filled.
Heard various stories, freezing works not killing as many animals because of no freezer space.
50 ton of pea seed air freighted to Europe at huge expense because it was the only way to get them there.
A couple of frozen chip factories stopping processing for at least a week with spuds still in the ground.
Apparently boats are flat out doing Asia - Europe work and missing us out completely.

Is it just us or are there shortages in the UK too?

Its not just NZ,

Manufacturers in NI complaining

"We're short of steel, we're short of people, we're short of every feckin thing."

Getting the boats in to shift the full ones would be nice. Cold storage outfits have containers parked everywhere, running the fridges off hired in generators.
The ports seem to be really busy, just not enough capacity I guess.

Can’t get hold of Hotwire reels in the UK, don’t your lot make them? @kiwi pom

Covid has certainly had a worldwide effect on logistics and exposed just how critical it is for everything to work in sequence - 10's or even 100's of 1000's of containers either full of PPE in the wrong place due to panic over-ordering as well as skilled staff shortages at container ports due to illness / covid secure measures.

Then there have been a couple of other ongoing issues as well, Suez and the UK/EU spat.

Don't know to be honest maybe, There's a bit of a hierarchy when it comes to who gets the boxes and how many so some of the smaller companies could be really struggling.

6 months for a head scoop for the crush!

Next door has been waiting 12 months for a diet feeder.

Prattley handling equipment are about 2k from here, haven't heard if they're struggling to get stuff shipped. Probably struggling both ways, can't get steel in or finished product out.

Apparently Port of Auckland really screwed up, they were switching over to automated loading/unloading but it doesn't work very well (who'd have guessed:rolleyes:) and they had no operators left to switch back to the old way, which really pi**ed the shipping companies off.

there is a awful lot parked on fields all over the world now full of crap we don't want but don't want to get rid of sites keep popping up all over secure storage

They will wait until it goes out of date then send it to landfill having paid Johnson's donor mates an inflated price for it all so they can send the money offshore and not pay any income/corporation taxes.

It happens everywhere - 70% of our turnover with the vans comes from correcting other folks mistakes/incompetence - Long may it last !

There's a perfect storm of strange conditions at the moment. I posted on another thread that there's a major shortage of semiconductors. I'm being quoted back-order dates well into 2022 for some popular components. They're saying it's because of the fabricators ramping down production because they thought everyone would be sitting at home twiddling their thumbs while, in reality, they're sitting at home buying new gadgets and using the money they've saved up to buy new cars. Demand for components has actually been much higher than they anticipated and with the just-in-time supply chain, it takes months for the increased production to filter through.

I also enquired about buying a piece of electronic equipment from Germany yesterday and they've told me they've given up on selling to the UK because so much paperwork has been shifted onto the smaller sellers like them. He claims he has to submit a quarterly VAT-like return to HMG even though he barely sells to the UK. He also says the EU-UK trading arrangement is now more complex and paper intensive than any other trading arrangement on earth and a lot of his larger suppliers are saying they won't ship to the UK either. Whether it's true or not, the standard of service I'm receiving from component suppliers in the USA and circuit board manufacturers in China is second to none and there's been ZERO issues getting stuff delivered from them.

Our local port (can see from house, Felixtowe) is the or was the biggest in Europe. Last week it didnt have a single ship alongside its berths being loaded or unloaded. It been many many years since that happened!. It is casued by the Ever given being due 4 weeks ago....... so massive backlog and ships not where they should be. We also have a large compound of containers near us in Melton. Local eco warriers are on TV saying its full of PPE. Its not as a few mates drive the trucks that took the containers there. They are all empty. There must be about 300 there.

By all accounts there are approximately 1 million containers in the Far East full of unwanted PPE,
Every thing is in short supply,
Need a new Fridge freezer, local supplier said delivery September,
Need Batteries for scissor lift, from the states, not available,
Type 1 MOT nearly unavailable
Probably due to HS2 have order for 20,000 tons daily,

But I have plenty of secondhand Grain equipment available for sale. !!
