Winter sheep grazing

Hi all.

I farm some sheep and cattle and have wintered sheep on dairy farms in the past. Could someone tell me why a lot a dairy farmers aren’t keen on having the sheep in the winter now?

Would any dairy farmers on this forum be keen to have sheep in the winter? In the past I have usually got the sheep of the farms by January so won’t be there too long.

If anyone wants sheep in the winter, especially to get on top of all that silage grass they won’t need for a last cut because the clamps are full 🤨🤨 let me know. Anywhere from Dorset along to East Sussex would be great.

Cheers

Common among dairy farmers these days to start "building covers on their grazing platform" in the autumn ready to turn out early.

Farmers further north who have experienced frost kill in a hard winter, & on wetter land may be a bit more enthusiastic about having sheep trim off surplus grass up to christmas

Grazers like early, thick grass

Housed don't like sheep taking out the perennial ryegrasses on their silage leys

and none of us like phone calls saying there are sheep out .....
