anyone know??
In theory, they shouldn't, surely?

I have had that too.. Turns outs the uniformity of my wife's watering of the garden with a hose is even worse than the uniformity of a rain gun on a windy day!I’ve one said 80mm and other said 30mm a metre apart
I have known more than one person deliberately top up a neighbours gauge for fun, always be suspicious if you have had orange rainI have had that too.. Turns outs the uniformity of my wife's watering of the garden with a hose is even worse than the uniformity of a rain gun on a windy day!
Had quite a few of them over the years but the biggest drawback is that they don’t last long. Had a couple of Oregon ones that only lasted about two years each. Very useful instead of looking how much water came overnight in the bottom of a bucket. Got a cheap one now, ‘Aercus’ off Amazon and it’s lasted best. Twenty something pounds. It’s only the rainfall I’m interested in but obviously if you pay more you can get some fancy ones.
