Was looking over the gate at my tups this afternoon and was tempted to get the clippers out.

Then i remembered the battle it is to shear the barstewards and decided they could wait a few weeks!

They'll only get fitter, and stronger, for waiting.;) I've got 100 in a field, that have had a kind winter and plenty of grass this Spring. Now, to find a shearer......:D

Now we know what we are not going to do with the wool just wondering if anyone has shore any yet? I did my rams and a few odd hoggets on Sunday and I must admit I ran them inside last night when it started to hail stone. Had a few calls about shearing tegs next week.

Looked over the fence yesterday and figured 70% of the dry hogs had done the job already and the ewes were about 3 weeks behind (y)

Surely the cats at the top getting fat are not going to want it streamlined?
As such more producers, especially smaller/ new entrants are going to become disillusioned and move away to a buyer that pays prompt ?
I can't afford to have MY money tied up in their accounts for a year!
Do you think the Irishman could pay promptly for your wool if he was handling the entire clip and do you believe he could take delivery of all this wool post shearing?.The fact of the matter is that the Irishman is one of the wool board's biggest customers buying wool at auction throughout the entire year. Basically he is using the wool board to store wool for him until such time as he requires it and can pay for it. Remember the old motto, the board doesn't buy your wool, it sells your wool.

Did one Shetland tup yesterday with blades who's wool has started to come off and so he was annoying me to look at.

But I've got some new blades on the way from Blade Shear Gear UK so saving up the sheep so I can test them out.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
