WORMING SHEEPDOGS

We worm our sheepdogs roughly every 2 months with Drontal tablets. Out of the 5 dogs I have a terrible job getting 3 to take them, to the point where I have to stick a pair welding gloves on & force it to the back of there throat & eventually after a lot of wrestling they’ll swallow them. I hate the job & think surely there must be an easier way to do this…. So just wondered what other people do….? Thanks in advance..

P.s any amount of hiding the tablets in there food, coating them in butter, pate & god knows what else does not work they sniff them out & leave the tablets… The one dog will even suck what I’ve coated the tablet in & spit it out…. It’s bloody infuriating tbh….

C-Ovis bad a few years ago so we’re pretty hot on worming the dogs often now & touch wood no issues since….

Dissolves in the stomach so don't see any reason why you couldn't. It's how they get tablets into old folks who won't swallow them.

Our Lab/Collie won't take Drontal, we use Anthelmin.

Cazitel is the same as Drontal and I think it comes in flavoured tablets.

Dissolve them beforehand. Warm water.

I buy my wormers in bulk off an Internet supplier, generic product and a fraction of Vet prices. All dogs eat them even fussy terrier. BUT, when we had 2 dogs having post-op medications, dissolving the tablets 30mins in advance of feeding worked really well and saved the stress of making sure they had their tablet.

Good thinking, but needs a fair squirt for an adult dog.

Just don't get lazy and try a dab of Ivermectin instead of tablets...

Try putting the tablets in a treat such as a bit of cheese, until they become wary of "treats". Ours loves eating sheep crap, but perhaps not a good idea putting the tablet in that.

Yep. Don't even try it on a collie cross.

Says on the ivermectin to be careful near collies.

White wormer doesn’t kill the tapeworm that causes C.Ovis in sheep, unfortunately.
