Last nights Top Gear confirmed my belief that at the moment electric cars are useless .
I caught the last half. It was interesting but they didn't give any indication of how much the battery life was affected by going outside the '20% to 80%' charge band. It may be that the gain isn't worth the impact.
Not seen it yet my self, was watching other stuff on catchup so it's in the que at minI caught the last half. If, say, it causes a 5% battery capacity loss over 5 years it'd be no problem.....seems to be a lot of different opinions on the 20/80 thing, I would love to see some real science around that
we only charge to 80% most days as its plenty for regular daily use, rarely see it below 20% you can only do that practically if you home charge however, wouldn’t be possible using public networks
i have seen no loss of battery performance yet in 20,000 miles though, charged daily
Different battery chemistries work differently. I think the LFP cells in Made in China Teslas are happier at higher state of charge than those from the States, but the cells have lower capacity.seems to be a lot of different opinions on the 20/80 thing, I would love to see some real science around that

What IS it with all this "vegan interior" stuff? The new Fisker Ocean unveiled at the LA show looks a seriously interesting machine. I'm not a fan of anything remotely SUV but this looks the business. Not an ugly mofo either. Mid priced, good range and rapid. Ticking a lot of boxes for me. Presumably still heavy but that's just a thing at this stage of battery tech sadly.
rather an “odd” test !
i’m still finding mine very useful and very cheap to own. / run
only valid downside is capital cost of these things vs ice …….. but capital is cheap
Why would a dealer be arguing with the battery manufacturer? Surely his contacts are only with the car manufacturer?Car dealer friend of mine has actively stopped pushing elec because it’s costing him due to arguing between the car manufacturer and battery manufacturer.
I didn’t say the dealer was . I said he’s stuck in the middle. Why would a dealer be arguing with the battery manufacturer? Surely his contacts are only with the car manufacturer?
