It's coming to that time of year again and I though it would be a good idea to have somewhere to share gift ideas for the hard to buy for husband or wife ! As I always struggle with what to get my wife for Xmas it would be a help for me and I hope for others !

OK. Some simple rules.

You can't buy perfume and you can't buy her jewellery without her express indication of the item being what she wants- these are far too subject to personal tastes in my view.

Nice bottle of champagne (I love Vevue Cliquot) and some chambord to go with it. Neck that lot Crimbo eve and you're a dead cert- unless she falls asleep.

Flowers- find a good independent florist and get a cracking bunch made up for collection before the big day.

For a personalised gift, look at the Etsy website.

Something nice, something practical. I.e. cashmere cardigan and Milwaukee Stanley knife (for opening online shopping).

the knife was a winner the other year.......... and I didn't buy myself one at the same time!

Something she wants,
Something she needs,
Something to wear,
Something to read.

Is the general rule for presents in our house.

I understand I have not actually given the OP any useful ideas 👍

I’d not been going out with present wife for long, maybe 2nd Xmas together when I hit “peak present”.
I’m not a fan of tuna, but she is.........anyway, one frosty winters morn a food lorry ran off the rd into one of @Chae1 ‘s fields, writing off quite a lot of catering packs of food. He was asked t tidy up the mess and I happened to acquire a 12kg box of (occasionally dented) tins of tuna....which I duly wrapped and put under the tree to much subsequent commenting and questioning.

imagine the look on her face when she opened it.........

I could tell I’d nailed it, would never find such a perfect present again and stopped bothering to try shortly after.
