Anyone else getting the merchant bulletins warning of seed shortage and we should be getting in early for over yeared seed?

Are they completely un-aware that a lot of what they sold last year is still there waiting to be sown this Autumn?

I have a neighbor who always buys all his seed in, wont need a single bag this year... germination test being OK.

They might think it was bad last year, its not going to be any better for them this year... there is also a lot of fert in stock.

Commodity prices are always "under pressure from potential bumper harvest in +insert country here+"

Inputs are always "buy now before they run out / sell out / India hoovers it all up".

Wonder how they are getting on flogging osr seed....
They haven't flogged me any OSR seed because i want it on the terms of "if no crop in Feb I am not paying anything"

I want to OSR seed that comes from roudabouts and roadside verges . Grows magnificently there with no fertiliser and no other inputs. Just a beggar to get combine to it.
Also in my garden from the bird feeders. It grows in gravel, between paving slabs, and up against walls with no attention from me whatsoever.

Makes me wonder if you farmer chaps are doing it all wrong and just like something to moan about

Small seed as many more seeds to the tonne
it anoys me they sell rape by the seed But wheat by the tonne
wheat is often 56 tgw and needs a higher seed rate in terms of kg per ha

put seed in a good seed Bed and it will grow

I was at a local well known merchant, getting a bit of fertiliser earlier this week, and their massive shed was full of unsold wheat. At least 500 ton I was told. Duplicate that around the country and there’s a fair amount in stock.
I’d want a reduced price to take some of it off their hands.

Seen some of the ‘help to buy’ schemes on osr, what a joke they are still taking no risk. If you get the conditions osr will grow whatever so just sling it off the heap !

remember some years ago did some combi drilling for a guy, home s aved seed to be honest chickens wouldnt of ate it. by chance i had to harvest it also, typical firebrigade job stock farmer on a bad forcast . flat to the ground 60 mph wind still cutting at midnight 14% ? tons to the acre fantastic! never even got a brew! didnt rain! could have saved himself 2£ an acre! if he waited for his other man.

Surely some seed will still need buying in as last years will have lost a certain percentage of germination, depending on which seed dressings it has on? Over yeared treated seed never has the vigour of fresh seed, so even though I have some overyeared in stock I’ll be doing a thorough germination test and buying some fresh seed in as well.
