Can startect be got over there, It’s the other new class of wormer (purple drench ) that came out at the same time as zolvix. I bought it a few years back as a quarantine for bought in sheep. Think it was around €100 for a litre at the time, so should be cheaper then zolvix.
It's not as easily available as it was. And still needs to be "on subscription".
Our vets got hold of some imported stuff again this year but it's not kept on the shelf.

Don't forget it's a lot higher dose rate than zolvix so the price per dose isn't so much different.

It went unavailable here a couple of years ago. and my vet says they still can't get it. I seem to remember @Poorbuthappy saying that his vet can supply it though.:scratchhead:

It did work out at about 2/3 the price of Zolvix per dose iirc, but dose rate is double that of Zolvix if comparing bottle prices.

Yes i had 2 x 5L last year and again this year. It's imported to order I understand but not sure if my vets are importing it or tagging on to someone else's order?
Think it's dearer for coming in like that though, but is have to check prices.

Not trying to be an arse but just putting this here:
I got brought in resistance to all groups to varying degrees buying sheep from the dales at mart, - varying from white only killing 20% of worms to 80% for clear and yellow.... All mixed up and causing hell.
On vets advice they were housed in August and all muck produces was given away to an arable neighbour without stock -to break the worm cycle without using a wormer. This was only a group of 60 ewes brought in mind you. Then they were turned out behind my own homebred flock to pick up local worms and any that were suffering with worms were just sent to kill. Zolvix was then used to clean up this group again before being folded into the flock.
I have currently got only resistance to white showing 94% killed. I've only wormed 1/5thmy sheep this year based on scops - used orange wormer and next will be clear. In time hopefully white will become viable again and I can avoid problems.

just shows the risks your taking with bought in sheep from mart , must be a nightmare buying off dealers on top ,

Hence I now quare tune everything for a month on either hard standing or a stubble crop due to cultivation or no stock for years. Let the worms die without exposure and ensure they're carrying my local worms before I worm them. Amazing how quick they go - I think the life cycle of some is only 2 weeks inside the animal I belive

I assume you quarantine drench them with Zolvix/Startect on arrival to clear out any resistant worms while they’re on the concrete/stubble?:scratchhead:

Don't use it unless you have to (hopefully you haven't opened it and can take it back:confused:) Save it until clear and yellow wormers don't work for you.

I would have hoped the assistant at your local merchant would have asked you if it was what you really wanted/needed.
That's not the best advice is it, need to use it to make other actives last longer.
If you keep it in reserve until it's the only thing that works we are all doomed.

I think it not far off the same price because I believe startect is 1ml/5litres and zolix is 1ml/10litres.

Startect still used to be a fair bit cheaper per dose, but Zolvix has since gone to merchants and Startect seems to be special import only via vet now, so I suspect that price differential will have altered somewhat. Not that vets generally know how to charge or anything of course....

Got the sheep in for worming. All in good condition and very clean back ends. To look at them I would question worming them.
Then I saw these very large worms in the muck of some lambs!
Will get an fec done in a few weeks. All wormed with zolvix.

Do you want the bad news? They are tapeworm segments, and your expensive Zolvix wormer won’t tickle them. ;)

Only white wormer will kill tapeworm but, unless present in huge numbers, tapeworms aren’t supposed to cause any economic loss. Damned unsightly though.

Yes. Typical. All the expense of zolvix and it won't clear them.:D
Will do fec in a few weeks and if no other problems then a white wormer to clear up the tapeworm.

3 years worth then:whistle: - I bet the expiry date won't be that long :(

As I said before, it's pretty bad form of your merchant to sell you something as expensive as that without double checking that it was what you really wanted.

To be fair, our MV depot often ask how many you have to do. Wormers there are always 'behind the counter' and you can't just pick it up of the shelf.

I think the convenience of mole country stores is it's selling point, not the wonderful depth of knowledge the 18 yo girls don't have. But I'm just basing that on the two I use.

Freebie turned up today, from the 1litre bottle I bought at Wynnstay a few weeks back.

Everyone loves a freebie......

What are they like for white/fluke drenches? I’ve got another free 1 to pick up on my next order before long to (y) used white wormer yesterday through a simcro gun (plastic no Phillips) and it was at least twice as long to do them as it is with a optiline gun but I’m not sure if the optiline will work ok with the emulsions?
