Combine performance in rape

Never been happy with my JD C670 in rape even less so after spending 5 hrs un bunging the blasted thing last night , CR 's seem to be going well -around here ,,,,,, maybe time to try one into the crop that has always given me grief with this present combine , any other suggestions for a demo

We made a brief start on Wednesday and only 4ha cut but it was killing the lexion 770. Engine load was jumping around 30% - 90% in the blink of an eye. Forward speed was 3.5-4km/hr. The seed is ready but the stalks arnt basically so we had some bits of green stalk in the tank which is the signal to stop and be patient. Settings were drum 650, wind 1000, top sieve 12, bottom sieve 8, concave 18, rotors standard claas osr setting.

thats tight on the concave if seed is fit ?

Sounds relative to my experience , tho I had no green stuff in the tank but that's nether here or there .

As I've said on other threads I've got the patience of a saint but when you have 3 nearby neighbours who have chopped through a reasonable acreage of rape over the last 10 days it makes you scratch your head

Yep but it leaves room for a blockage as the F1 driver last year found out, after I'd suggested he slowed down slightly ..... I didn't even make it the 6 miles home before the phone rang !

Basically it's not ripe to fly through it yet and as there's only 2-3 days cutting and no wheat ready for 2 weeks there's no hurry.

So next question ,,,,,, many moons ago I always used to lift the table auger to help clear the rape of the table ,,,,, with no extention it was important to clear the header as quick as poss , I have to confess in not lifting the auger on this combine ,,,,,, I prefer to block the auger 10 times than grit my teeth once as a lump goes through the concave ,,,, auger always seems to clear the crop okay tho

Unless the plant is dead top to bottom no machine flies through it. None of them like silaging and big green stalks are akin to that but if your looking to swap colours look at a new axial flow as claas prices are going up and I think to risky to buy a used machine due to being complicated for repairs.

if no hurry you're best to wait - forecast looks poor for a while

I've found that 30-35 leaves 5-10mmm to unblock if you get carried away ! a drum block is not a big deal really, its the rotors you don't want to block !!

Unfortunately we had a very bad demo of a 9230 a couple of years ago , if I was chopping most of my straw I would have one on the farm tomorrow but we had 5 different balers in the field and none of them could pick up the swath , I know many on here say they have no problem but the fact on the day were behind my 20 ft header I had 7 bales per run, AF had 4 from a 35 ft header and it wasn't from a lack of trying from the operator we had every combination of concave , drum speed , concave clearance and fwd speed known to man , just a bad day at the office compounded by the thought that it's a good idea to use the chopper to transfer the straw from the back of the rotor to the ground at warp factor 8 , and in this there was just to much short straw in the swath on the floor , bunged the cultipress and the trio in yds

but nice simple combine

You should be able to slow the chopper rotor down for trailing straw & hopefully the driver took the static blades out of work.... There's no rear beater on an Axial Flow, just the chopper.

That's quite a lot of wind for osr, I'm only running at about 800

Poor Cub!!! What of the wreckage? they going to re-build it?

Not asked him yet. It was in a worse state when he bought it, so wouldn't be surprised.

Whether he is ever allowed to fly it is another matter?

Unless anyone wants to make an offer for it......
