Combine performance in rape

Never been happy with my JD C670 in rape even less so after spending 5 hrs un bunging the blasted thing last night , CR 's seem to be going well -around here ,,,,,, maybe time to try one into the crop that has always given me grief with this present combine , any other suggestions for a demo

T series Deere? Should give you the same output and handle the rape better.

CR9080 will do 18t/hr in OSR, at probably 65% engine power. It will do more if you want to accept some sieve losses.

Even leaving a long stubble and just taking the canopy into to machine off which I'm happy to do if it gives me some output I seem to struggle to get the acres cut in the day which I thought I would when I had the machine , it's not unusual to find me dawdling around at 3.5 kph , I have a zurn extention on and I feel I have a nice even feed to the elevator but it seems to go tits up as and when it gets to the drum and rotors ,,,,,,,,,

a question tho , Class hybrid users what drum speed do you run at , my book tells me to run at 450 rpm ,,,,, perhaps a higher drum speed might smash it through better ????? Just thinking aloud

had my drum at 630 but don't hit them too hard as split seed concave was 16mm. i say was as finished osr monday

Yes, we were getting comfortably 18t/he through ours. Perhaps with some header tweeks we could get some more out of it, or with longer stubbles.

Drum speed should be a fair bit faster run mine at 700 open concave up fan about 750 sieves what ever your happy with try to keep returns to a minimum keep it full and go for it !!

Never open the concave right up, so when it bungs up you can then open her right up and clear it "easier"

I've had two c series john Deere and neither were good in OSR no mater what we adjusted . It was like driving on a knife edge , get on or block up either way sample wasn't good .

Never had any trouble with our cts - unless it wasn't fit? That would do 15t/hr no problem when it was fit, s680 now will comfortably do +\-20 in good going.

Well started in osr today and two hours in this happened

started in the wiring loom under or above gear box we think, just hope we can get another combine before it rains.

You never bung a Class BUT....
I should have tried this principle when I last bunged a Class it would have been quicker!!

Never have had a problem with sample , probably cos I'm dawdling about and the machine has plenty of time to make a tidy sample

I've been thinking about it and because I'm on the low speed range on the drum with the speed at the lower end of its capabilities then maybe there's not enough momentum to get the material through the drum with out the constant grunting , I've always run the concave at around 30 to give me some room to open concave in case of blockage .

You could be right there I don't think I ran the drum in slow in rape so maybe worth trying in high? Also have you tried pushing on a bit instead of dawdling- I found that the worst thing - & still do with new one! Cheers dh

May sound a bit counter productive, but take a smaller swipe (20 feet with a 30 foot header rather than full width). That way their is less volume going through machine which should put it under less pressure, it's also likely you can go faster which should get it to feed better which should stop it 'gobbing'

Tuesday I had to wind my rotors out three times !!!!
The large green stalks (been rounded up 18 days seed 6.9% ) jam in the beater and cause the beater belt to slip I found increasing my rotor speed to 600 from 450 and opening the concave to 38 helped and finished off 30 ac before the 55 MM. of rain

Concave a couple of notches off full open, drum not quite at minimum speed so it has enough momentum to smash a heap through and...

Drum at min speed on mine means variable speed belt likely to be a bit slack and slippy. So give her a bit of pinch to keep it gripping, hence a bit above min speed. 550 rpm, not 500.
