I doubt Ford dumped the tractors due to the likelyhood of warranty claims. I would have thought Ford were deciding to concentrate on cars, vans and suv/pickups. Ford unloaded the European type light to heavy trucks to Iveco in the 80s.I think they were dual branded as Ford New Holland for a short while. Not sure if it happened when the chassis colour changed, which may have coincided with the change from Carraro to Fiat front axles and the introduction of the 60 series. The solus New Holland tractor brand was introduced in 1996 but Fiat had bought the Ford tractor business a few years earlier just a few months before the launch of the 40 series, which would be in 1991. The tractor business was sold for many reasons but probably partly because Ford knew that that its new 40 series range was being launched too soon and that there would be massive warranty claims on both Dual Power and Electro-Shift transmissions. The same mistake they made decades earlier with Select-o-Speed
You are correct. The first ones were only 12x12 synchro only. They delayed the DP versions for as long as they could but still launched it with an almost unusable/lethal clutch action. Not sure if it was quite 18 months, but I'll take your word for it.@Cowabunga , no dual power available on the first 40 series, that came along after 18 months or so if I remember coorr.
Ford dumped them pretty sharpish just before the series40 launch. They wouldn't exactly admit that they were going to launch a fault-ridden new product that would cost the new owners millions now would they.I doubt Ford dumped the tractors due to the likelyhood of warranty claims. I would have thought Ford were deciding to concentrate on cars, vans and suv/pickups. Ford unloaded the European type light to heavy trucks to Iveco in the 80s.
We had a 7740 sl no dual power with a conventional clutch in it.....mid 1991 I think@Cowabunga , no dual power available on the first 40 series, that came along after 18 months or so if I remember coorr.
