Ford tractors rebranded new holland

I remember new ford 8340’s spring 2005 and then new Holland badged 8340’s spring 2006.
The move in chassis paint colour from blue to grey was around that time too. All a bit of an evolution as noted previously. Highly likely to be wrong with my dates also!

I think they were dual branded as Ford New Holland for a short while. Not sure if it happened when the chassis colour changed, which may have coincided with the change from Carraro to Fiat front axles and the introduction of the 60 series. The solus New Holland tractor brand was introduced in 1996 but Fiat had bought the Ford tractor business a few years earlier just a few months before the launch of the 40 series, which would be in 1991. The tractor business was sold for many reasons but probably partly because Ford knew that that its new 40 series range was being launched too soon and that there would be massive warranty claims on both Dual Power and Electro-Shift transmissions. The same mistake they made decades earlier with Select-o-Speed

I doubt Ford dumped the tractors due to the likelyhood of warranty claims. I would have thought Ford were deciding to concentrate on cars, vans and suv/pickups. Ford unloaded the European type light to heavy trucks to Iveco in the 80s.

Ford dumped them pretty sharpish just before the series40 launch. They wouldn't exactly admit that they were going to launch a fault-ridden new product that would cost the new owners millions now would they.

Ford Motor Company bought New holland back in 1986, and they renamed Ford New Holland.
Then in 1991 Fiat bought Ford Newholland, and if i remember correctly from the Ford Bible, they were allowed to use the Ford name on tractors for 5 o'r so years. So at about that time dropped the Ford and fiat names, and re branded as Newholland .
The 40 series was started back in the early to mid 80s so we're a Ford tractor by design, after the 40 series they were of fiat parentage

Worked on a farm that had some from every yr. from memory their ones were.......

J,K and L reg ford branded white roof

M early NH branded blue roofs but bonnet decals not same as later models

N onwards NH branded, blue roofs and the black and white bonnet decals

K reg ones pulled like trains, M reg the aircon never worked and the N regs‘ had comfy seats and Crome exhausts, one was a big bore, it sounded immense.

I have one of the first 6640 sl on a J plate with a standard clutch (has slightly different front hub castings to k reg ones ).
Now that I've turboed it, it's a fantastic tractor. The early sl models were fairly bomb proof, capable of very high hrs if looked after and not abused.

Could never understand why fait bought the whole ford tractor division and then proceeded to do away with the fait name and terracota colour and go with blue . Them recent nh tractors painted terracota looked far nicer
