Coping with this cold snap?

It is pretty. Almost makes up for having to carry water to the cattle all week.

I have just come in to warm up, going out now to take water to the calving pens, if we had more cold weather I would put heating wires round the water pipes, but last year they never froze, so caught in the bit in the middle where when it does freeze it is a pain. Need to ground to stay frozen so I can sort out the trash from hedge laying, but need it to thaw so the cattle have water! Heptovaced the ewes this afternoon, when I went to get another lot, the trace elements froze in the drencher sitting on the race!

Its bearable here.

Yards are a challenge , will be a right mess when it thaws!

Display on space heater was 3 degrees warmer tonight.

Slurry and dung this week.
45 acres plastered so far.

I'll sell you a heater for the parlour and the office good TFF discount at the moment

Yes I know the arable boys will be inside staring at your grain cheques ... although if you would like to spare a thought for us livestock boys who are paying for your largesse that would be kindly

Now, we lost an hour this morning defrosting the parlour before we could milk despite being under cover and then I was forced in to an unheated office to do some paperwork so lunchtime brought a bit of relief:

Love love love it. I was in my waterproofs every day from Nov-March last year, looked like it was going the same way in the backend last year but jan onwards has been much drier and the recent cold snap is great, it’ll have been a decade since we had a freeze like this, in-line with the last solar minimum, if it follows the same pattern I’m guessing next winter will be a cold one again, here’s hoping.

Fed up with it as this is our access at the moment

Just about passable in a 4x4 but nothing else so basically nothing in or out for a week. Too much to dig out and nowhere to put it as the banks are so tight and steep. Hoping for a thaw over the weekend as we have already delayed a feed delivery for a week and by Monday the reserves will be getting pretty short

Not much fun lambing when this cold. Looking forward to bit warmer Next Week.
No I stopped turning out yesterday as I turned some out yesterday and 2 lambs were lifted back up within an hour. Fortunately plenty of pen space at the moment. Water still flowing to water tanks - above ground alkathene but some Tanks do have an inch or so of ice.

Looking on instagram and on here I’m just glad that I’m fortunate to have not had snow or 6 weeks+ of this weather like some people.

@7610 super q you can’t be that close to the sea then? You havnt got many gulls and you’ve got trees 🤷🏻‍♂️
