Coping with this cold snap?

Yes I know the arable boys will be inside staring at your grain cheques ... although if you would like to spare a thought for us livestock boys who are paying for your largesse that would be kindly

Now, we lost an hour this morning defrosting the parlour before we could milk despite being under cover and then I was forced in to an unheated office to do some paperwork so lunchtime brought a bit of relief:

Set me wondering how you others are coping with the Mini Beast?

Today is a bit perky, yesterday was lovely with plenty of sun.
Fresh enough without freezing water troughs, dry enough to hedge cut insides. As said above, saving straw and cattle are cleaner and drier this week.

Always worry about the younger stock and the cold, but did a bit of work sheeting gates this Autumn and, touch wood, no real problems 🤞.
The barn seems a little more pleasant in the fresh rather than the mild damp days

Our robots are quite well protected when the wind is from the east. This morning, when we started loading the vans at 5am outside temp was -10 and apart from an icicle on the brush spray nozzle were working fine.
Our tank room has been a pain in the butt in the past but the hot wires switched themselves on & prevented any problems.
These are brilliant, worth their money 10x over on a morning like this

My forage budget is fücked, my vehicles keep breaking (necessitating long road trips on the quad), I’m rapidly working my dogs to destruction and my gloriously comfortable, very expensive boots sprung a leak yesterday.

But the customers are mostly happy. And spring is on the way.

You know a chap is really cold when his legs are coming out of the oven rather than going in...
