How many trees have you planted this winter?

We’d plant more if the ‘professional’ planters we hired weren’t complete eejits loads of guards and trees wasted just because they put the cable ties to high so they slipped off the post in the wind

even when they come back to sort the trees like there meant to they can’t reuse the guards just out of laziness

Question to all you guys planting trees, where are you planting them? Replacing dead trees on established woodland? In or on new or old hedges? Rough ground? Or on what was productive farmland? Just interested

Can I ask how long is the hedge taking to take shape as it were, we are thinking about this, but we reckon a good year or 2?
depends on how high you are, some hedges we have planted over 1000 feet, must be 10 years ago and I recon it will want trimming for the first time this autumn! I have found that Blackthorn does not do at the top of the farm either, not robust enough.

as I learnt, often they skimp on post length so by the time it’s banged in there’s an inch below the cable tie Which doesn’t work so well

planted about 20,000 8 yrs ago, then chunks of a few a few 1000 every few years with hedges. Just done 1.2 km of hedge and tree belt this year. Got 100 arriving Monday for the garden hedge.

we are planting gapped up hedges, created new (where there would have been) and lots of tree belts about 10-20 m wide to link up woodlands, often on boundary hedges.

i love doing it, I love walking through them as they grow, I find it v rewarding. It seems the deer do as well!
