Choice of Crook?

Supercrook, love it, but bit of a ball ache when ya catch one wi the leg and dont just have a good enough grip on the crook end and she off down moor wi ya crook round her leg 🙄 🤣🤣
It could be worse. I had a speculative go at a ewe tanking full pelt down the fence. I got her and was pulled straight off my feet, flat out. A fair feat, as I was about 19 stone at the time!

I had a vet student here dislocate her shoulder, she was holding a ewe between her legs and another one ran past her through an open gate, she shot her hand out and grabbed it under the jaw but it kept going. Strong girl, only 50kg.. power lifter... was... stronger sheep... also 50kg...

Never tried a leg crook yet because Dad's friend had one and dislocated or broke the leg of a ewe and he refused to get one after that. Might of been a one-off,but anyone had similar?

Smart you are. I have never broken a leg on a ewe, but I have dislocated my shoulder on more than one occasion. I am not as smart as you. There is a technique to it so you do not create to much shear force. Metal or Fiberglass post can be to rigid until you get the technique down. I now teach the process with the cheapest chinease wood I can find at my local big box store. The cheap wood will just snap before a leg will. Or in my case, before my shoulder is pulled out of socket.

What do folks use to hold them on their bikes? Would a pair of gun grips go narrow enough to hold it ?

I have a plastic box on the front of the quad whenever the RAPPA kit isn’t on there. I have bolted a couple of 12mm SWA cable cleats on the back (cost pennies). They are just tight enough to grip the shaft of the crook, but loose enough that you can grab it quickly. They do get looser with use, so replace once a year or so, and the crook is obviously wider than the quad unless you perform a @Poorbuthappy modification on it.
