I havnt seen a Blackie x swale but can imagine they are a grand sheep to keep, have you any if so any photos.
I’ve plenty of mules out of the blackie x swale ewe. Don’t keep them myself. I see some cracking ewes coming into Hexham, a proper strong hill ewe. Can see both parents in them well. I’m told they aren’t as hard as a swale but the lambs are worth £££ more, as are the cull ewes.
But what do I know? I’m just a lowland man who buys mule ewe lambs. It’s not as if I’m the target market or anything!!
Apart from mean they will know what Heather is unlike a lot of Blackies now……I can see what a blackie tup would bring to a swale ewe. Can't really see the benefit of a swale tup on a blackie ewe though...
Plenty of swales never see heather either.Apart from mean they will know what Heather is unlike a lot of Blackies now……
That’s true there’s defintely not as many swale breeders with windmills though….Plenty of swales never see heather either.
Ah ah ah. Most of mine are the white faced ones... I buy on size not colour...Aye but all you buggers only buy the pretty ones with dark faces! only the the right about mind about 75/25% black to white….
Have you any photos of the ewesall my ewes are bf x swale I don’t think you can beat them pure Blackies are getting too soft and overbred and pure Swales don’t have as good a carcass so I find the cross is the way ahead for a good working hill sheep.
I don't, I'm fighting Mr. England for the little white ugly buggers!Aye but all you buggers only buy the pretty ones with dark faces! only the the right about mind about 75/25% black to white….
Have you any photos of the ewes
I’m the same, so much so that one man has bought all my lambs the last few years, too many reared on dairy farms and creep which never grow onCheviot mules I produce ,they never see creep. Same buyers take them every year as they always say that they just come home and thrive,I never top the trade at the sales but I do have the satisfaction of knowing that I have return customers. I have now got to the stage that folk say that I am getting a very good trade for the size of them as the word has spread because the buyers are topping the trade with them as gimmers.
