Terriers

I know a few of you have terriers, do they work or are they pets / companion’s?
Mrs L has two patterdales, I pretend to hate them but don’t really.
We have Boo and Wilf , both are absolutely incredible ratters , I was just clearing the area to start my sheep handling yard when they dug a bloody big hole and fetched this one out , miles better than poison around the place

This is Jed, he’s a house dog but love’s coming with me, I’d love to tell you that he picked those pigeons but sadly no, happily sit and chew one in the hide

Had a parsons Jack Russel for about 7yrs ,who came out of the pound, as the old lady, who had him as a companion, couldn't cope with the little devil. Was supposed to be the wife's van companion but killed one two many chickens at her work and got banned.

He'd never miss a day and came shearing and fencing around the whole county. Would be on the far side of a valley but would be back as soon as you called him, just to check he was safe, before heading off back to a burrow or set.

Unfortunately he got hit by a car on the road digging for rabbits, which was my fault for not putting him back In the truck half hour earlier 🥲.

He was a born killer and on his kill list was no end of rabbits and rats, he'd spend hours digging for rats and expected you to move stuff to get in closer.
At least 3 cats I know about
No end of fox cubs
Someone else's lamb (who was particularly ill and sick looking so fair game in his eyes)
A pet lamb I'd revived over night and was about to go back to it's mother 🤦🤣
Someone's guinea fowl
A full grown stag turkey that was ready for Easter (that cost me a lamb box)

We cut his nuts off to tame him when we first got him which was a mistake as he would have made a great stud dog.

Wire Haired Jack Russell... came from a Farm top of the Horseshoepass.

Hated Everything .... Yet Friendly with all with a good bite if you took the pee.... Yet his own Shadow would make him jump.

I had him to come with me in the wagon at the time but he was wired wrong for that.

I remember “ Ben” a jack Russel we had as kids , he was proper psycho, we had to use a rolled up newspaper to push him off the chair so we could sit down. He would literally go diving in the river if we chucked a stone in and would then proudly carry said stone back home
For all his faults he was a brilliant house dog , everyone in the village was sh!t scared to knock on the door 😂

When I met the missus , She'd told me about being attacked by a German Sheperd and another time by a yorkshire terrier.... Yorkie left scars.

She was wary about dogs

Decided to Muzzle Taffy just in case...
You could hear him go. .. Claws ripping the carpet .. snorting through the muzzle.

They became best buddies instantly...

Uncle used to breed some of the best patterdales in the country and internationally. Bred down from the original Nuttall dogs. Gave me my first pup. He was a proper dog. Babies could crawl all over him, pull him round by his ears tail or balls and he wouldn't even curl a lip. But he was a full blown murderous barsteward. He'd dig through a concrete floor to get a rat, he had one in some breeze blocks one day that bit him on the eye lid, he went from excited to full on murderous rage and shredded that rat into confetti.
I dug some seriously deep holes to retrieve him! Best dog I ever had.

Little jab of penicillin if he got bitten up which he rarely did although he didn't have a lot of respect for foxes! But that particular bite bled like hell for 5 minutes and then I couldn't find it to do anything to it. He had a massive contempt for other people's cats as well, ours he wouldn't bother with even if they were new but the neighbours cats never ventured over our way very often!
