The £10m ‘Hallaig’ ferry serving the Isle of Raasay a prime example, a ground breaking diesel-electric hybrid, was great until the batteries started overheating, battery replacement cost £1.2m or something like that, so they’ve given up on the idea and are just running it solely on diesel instead. I wonder how much extra the electric aspect of the ferry inc it’s infrastructure added to the cost of the build.Try and pin them down and they will just blame Westminster for not giving them enough money to cover what they pi$$ed up the wall on vanity projects like vastly over-spec ferries and the bottle return scheme that nobody was ready for.
Completely irresponsible use of public money, total vanity.
