50% wheat 25% spring barley, 12.5% spring oats, 12.5% beans?
So where would the first wheat area come from in year 2 other than the 12.5% beans?

As I mentioned at BASE agm I’m experimenting with 40ac in continuous wheat with 2-3 month mostly leguminous cover between
Bit of a contrast to my “rotation” that doesnt even grow 2nd wheats
Obviously it’s goung to be a few years before I have anything useful to say about it though !
That's a tight cover crop window, Clive!
Presumably you are in the field within a few hours of the combine to sow the cover, but how successful have you been so far in getting it established and grown to a worthwhile size before having to sow the next wheat? What cover plants are you using?
Only asking as I would dearly love to do the same on my clay, but every other year the top of the soil is too wet to scratch in order to sow the cover.
cover crops go in within a day or so of harvest, speed is important as cut stubble acts as a chimney pulling moisture out of the soil, i'm constantly looking for ways to tighten that gap
early -mid august wheat harvest gives time for 8-10weeks of cover growth which at that time of year (warm and long days) can be significant enough to get a decent cover crop thats worthwhile, this year the 2nd wheat was drilled last week in October into above the knee covers planted august 20th
For this I used cheap and fast growing suff, mustard, sunflower and linseed based mix, I used no N but might do in this situation in the future if the continuous wheat crops prove successful
