New Defender - Land rover micro site

All this discussion about wooden dash boards and bunk

I think LR are missing a trick not making a modern day , wash out with a power washer utility vehicle. Like a 4wd latterday Mehari that will tow 3500kg, has a steering wheel, ABS / airbags and a radio that will get R4 . The rest isn't needed for a work vehicle . It would be SO iconic .

Less is more

You could still sell tarted up versions to the nouveaus and most folks could tool around in the base model with steel heavy duty wheels and a big smile

Yes but who would actually buy it? If you are right, why aren’t all farmers running muso things from Korea? Or that awful land rover copy
I looked inside a Ssangyong pickup at Hadleigh Show. The Duck is right, at it's price point it makes a compelling case especially as you can buy 2 for a suggested Defender starting price

You are right to ask the question. Nobody needs a Barbarian L200 when a 4work tows the same. Same for a McCormick or CASE vs a Fendt

This is the thing, folks plead poverty but then buy more than they need. In all reality most of us could cope with a tractor and a little 2wd van like they do in France

JLR have really lost there way dropping the pickup cab workhorse from what there reputation and sales was built on . They must think that we must all be walking around with money falling out of our pockets . A basic 4x4 workhorse that is reliable that farmers and other country users can do there best to destroy but stands up to it and can tow 3.5 tons is all that most want .
Yes have some top end models for the Clive's of farming but have a basic model for us peasants .

Yes, that’s what I want, a pickup cab Landrover. Far more flexible for awkward sized loads, I don’t want a back door and a van type vehicle and I don’t want something as big as a twin cab pickup. Standard 90 truck cab type vehicle for me please (y) and it must have easy clean wash and wipe down vinyl type seats.

No body would buy it for in large enough numbers for it to be viable to build.
Why would a company build a vehicle targeted at such a small minority of customers even the double cab pickup devotees are after a nice place to be with a lot wanting a auto box

I want a 4x4 van type of vehicle which is why I’ve ordered one .

Err . . .
All the Japanese 1 tonne 4 wheel drive Utes come in a variety of cab configurations - single cab / extra cab / dual cab, as well as a large range of interior finishes from basic work / fleet type vehicle trim to all the bling you could want . . .
Do people buy single cab bottom of the range Hiluxs though ?
The sort of vehicle people here are asking for is already available
Or don't you get the range of ute models we do ?
Or do people just choose not to buy the basic models ?

I can see the dog loving the little fascia with the gear selector as a ledge for his front feet whilst looking for bunnies out of the windscreen!

So it’s taken them how many years to come up with that dashboard?

Wow:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: looks like it’s been lifted from something built in the 1980s:scratchhead:

Edit- wonder if my comment has put the new defender launch back another 5 years so they can rustle sumat better up:confused:
