Hay yields and price

The demise of cash in the outside world will have a positive effect on the price of hay to the horse fraternity as those who sell for cash at below the cop will be out of the market as payment by card or bacs etc will remove some of the producers . we as sellers in the game have been moving towards bacs and getting our own card machine and I can confirm such a system works in the sellers favour even at a few pounds for an individual bale we have a number of customers who now pay electronically either before or at time of collection/delivery and this is being taken up at a much faster rate due to the covid effect

Making no hay this year, sold 17 acres for clamp and made 11 acres of clover haylage, remaining 24 acres have had to graze as not enough rain in May and June to wet a whistle. That said we have had a few squally showers this weekend and hope to see aftermath greening up nicely in time to wean lambs. Still got enough well made 2019 hay in the shed and no intention of giving away at less than cop. Sold around half of last years locally then some to Holland which seems odd that they paid more and transported further than various offers we had more locally.

No hay here this year either. £80k tractors, £10k mowers, £20k rakes, £10k tedders, £50k balers, fert £250 / ton....... shite weather, and all that just to have a trail of horsey women turn up, pinch a handful of hay from each bale, sniff it, and declare their horses won't like it.... Then there's the prices that my dad would have been disappointed with in 1972....

Foooooking mugs game.

Still got 16 acres here getting thicker and flatter with all the rain. Looking like a good crop now. 1st cut silage was down 30% but the regrowth is fantastic now.
Hopefully weather is improving from next weekend. Hay seems easy for some on here. Have never made it in less than 5 days and usually aim for a week to be certain.
