@kiwi pom re your comment about gun waving in states....just saying.... I feel safer here by a long shot than I would where lowland1 is!
Yes quite possibly, I follow @Lowland1 on today at work and think it looks a great place but I suspect its not without its dangers.
As I said up thread I really like the US, and enjoyed my 3 years there, just the amount of guns make me uncomfortable. I feel a lot safer bringing my kids up here than the US, or the UK for that matter but I realise there are places that are much worse

Not with jacinda in charge, gone all woke.
This ^^^

I would be ranching in southern South America if I'd realised NZ was on this much of a fast track to Shitsville - instead I kept telling myself the people would wake up soon, that it wouldn't get too bad.

Boy, was I wrong about that... this is a great place to come to prove "you can't take it with you when you go" or come on holiday.
Not so much for farming purposes.

I keep hearing this and I'm no Jacinda fan but I'm not quite sure what she's done so far that's so terrible?

A friend a of mine that farmed here that was originally from the uk was murdered in the Bahamas. Home invasion gone wrong. Canada isn’t that safe for the number of people that live here. Countless girls go missing and never found, and murders reported by the news are weekly events.

When I first came here I think it was much more dangerous. Two things cause it one is the gap between rich and poor which is narrowing and guns for a long time gun owners were targeted as those who had guns were thought of as having something worth stealing. Generally there's nowhere I would not go in the country but there are areas to avoid where there are tribesmen with guns. We often forget to lock our doors at night and I don't have a gun. I could also add last night my wife went for a walk with a neighbour last night whose husband was killed by a buffalo and I know several people killed in light aircraft accidents. Driving on the roads here is also incredibly dangerous. If it was easy then everyone would be trying to emigrate here with adversity comes opportunity I have a nice life but it might not be for everybody. If I'd inherited a big farm in UK I wouldn't be here that's for sure.

Was over working 20yr ago and had things been different at home I could of/ would of tried to stay. Such a positive atmosphere around agriculture, with a supportive govt who didn’t weigh business down in mind numbing bureaucracy, totally different to uk.

I’ve a friend who did emigrate and he’s not a happy bunny now. 2 main industries- tourism and agriculture, she shut tourism for 2yr and isn’t too keen on farming. Is it true she slipped through some policy during Covid to rename NZ to Aotearoa in the next few yr?

She hasn't really "done" a lot.
She's only 'the frontperson' when all is said and done.

I feel that it's a combination of what hasn't been done, and what doors have been opened that are particularly concerning.
That said team Blue have hardly opposed any of it either (SNA's, 3 Waters, racist and divisive policies set in law) and no way any of it could have been done in the US - they'd go into civil war first - because they have a constitution.

NZ seems to be lead by a series of concepts and ideals, by contrast

The people (including farmers) got exactly what they voted for - a red/green/brown coalition.

Maybe next election they won't be so stupid......

😆 No. Well not that I know of. The gradual renaming of the country (and towns, cities, streets, mountains, and rivers) is just kind of happening on its own. Anti colonialism is chic at the moment and everyone seems to be jumping on board, from councils, major private companies, the media, the politicians.......even the local dairy cooperative has started using Maori words to make them fit in. I personally DGAF about any of it as it's largely harmless, but just mentioning the topic to a white baby boomer is a great way to get their blood boiling - see my previous comment about idiots getting exactly what they voted for.

As for the OP - the grass is always greener over the fence. Farming internationally is the same sh*t with the same problems, just in a different country. Productive land prices are forever climbing, farming as a whole is becoming less and less profitable per ha of farmed land, with more restrictions and limitations being imposed along the way. Wherever you are in the world, get in while you can or you'll miss the bus.
