The End Of Royal Mail?

We moved here 20 years ago, first time we had a postman in a van, back then the vans were changed at 3 years old, I'm told now they keep them running until something Major goes wrong, current van here is 12 years old.
Regarding vehicles the repair and refurbish thing was an accounting procedure taken to extremes with the MMB and it’s tankers when it knew it’s demise was imminent…

So many people don't know the truth. Imagine your employer saying we will take some of your allowances off you and pay them back cleverly disguised (everbody else is told) as a pay rise (not) in exchange for you working 7 days a week, starting and finishing much later which all significantlyaffects yourhome and family life. Would you accept this??? I doubt it. That's all these postmen and women who worked right through the pandemic are doing. Time for a reality check for some commenter on here.

It was enough of a challenge finding parking at Shrewsbury or Telford hospital 20 years ago, never mind now!
We are 6mins from PRH and tend to drop the patient, and run. I pop and grab a coffee at a local garage, or go Home.

I had dropped Herself off for a visit and I decided to go and check some sheep 10mins away, I just got there, and she demanded instant pickup "as it is raining"...! I pointed out I had told her to call me BEFORE leaving the clinic.

But even that is better than trying to park there!

Theres been so many posts on here over the years about keeping staff with pay/working conditions/the importance of flexibility etc and how other perks are more important than just the money. The way I understand it off our regular postman the change to these is more of the issue. Many on here will never of had the tie of 9-5 where its just not possible to do many things during the day. Nip into certain places that arent open when your at work, an hr on the phone to some customer services to sort something out etc somethings just arent possible to do at a weekend or a half hr dinnerbreak, so for them to be able to race round for an early finish if they need it is a big help. Other issue our postie was talking about was use of agency staff, our local office has been short staffed for years if many are off they say cant afford anyone or sometimes get agency that are paid far more but then only end up doing half a round and come back saying ran out of time and couldnt find places etc. I think theres something about that in the strike argument, but like i said before he's not striking because he doesnt agree with everything there arguing about and cant afford to lose the money.

You have to accept change though. Our posty said it's about conditions, he also said they are short staffed. If they are short staffed then I think a pay rise is acceptable. Most other jobs now have flexibility built in.

Just had a Christmas card delivered today.

I am still waiting for a letter addressed to Rural Payments Agency Worksop accepted on December 15th at Grantham Post Office using the First Class Signed service to be delivered. I have now assumed it has been lost/dumped. I sent a replacement of December 27th using the Guarenteed Next Day service. Have been loyal to RM but shall look for alternative service providers in future for important tracked postage.

Royal Mail and their subsidiaries won’t accept that a delivery is failed at under 28 days whatever the “service” it is sent on. Whereas a mainstream business express carrier (not Hermes, Evri or Yodel) has a totally different attitude to tracking packages, but will not accept a delivery to a PO Box number and their tracking systems show your packages last known whereabouts within seconds of scanning.
Use a timed service (pre 12) and then you as the sender can track and chase up the item promptly if there is no Proof of Delivery by the allotted time.
Items sent on a “next day” basis are not deemed “late” until they have arrived back in the delivery depot having been “taken for a ride in the delivery van” along with an unreasonable number of other ubiquitous packages.

While I agree that’s not good, I would not know who to send you to to get a better service.

my advice is special delivery for any important items, Royal Mail treat them as top priority, in fact if staff fail to deliver them, it is a call into the office offence for staff, a 3 strike rule and then the boot Level stuff.
