Buy a Massey Combine and learn what the true meaning of the letters MF stand for!
Purchase? Even the scrap-man would want money to take it away.
Totally different model but I remember our neighbour had 3 either 525 or 625 combines and he described them as "Rubbish" . They soon got traded in for Deutz Fahrs which by all accounts were far superior .

Deutz Fahr are simple, rugged well put together machines with bomb proof air cooled engines, the old brown ones were anyway. I’ve had the Massey ‘experience’ too.

They had 3 brown ones, swapped them for the "Rubbish" Masseys then got rid of those and got Green Deutz-Fahrs instead.

A neighbour of mine had a 31xp when it was going it did a fair job. Covered ground with few losses and produced a fantastic sample. But it was an absolute pig reliability wise. Was terrible to work on with no access. It was when the back axle fell off he decided it was his last season with it. They bought a claas 118 maxi and stopped with claas ever since.

You can't deny it, Claas certainly put more "metal" in their combines than MF ever did. I watched a Massey Dronninborg emptying it's grain tank into a trailer whilst stationary one day and the whole rear hood seemed to wobble in and out as the sheet metal was made of tinfoil.🙄

31xp = 31 extra problems
Yes, thats what it stands for. To be fair the smaller MF27 wasnt a bad combine with many replacing MF525 models. Unfortunately the 29 /31/31XP had the same internals until you got to the sieves and the walkers, and although they produced a good sample, were just not built for higher output. It wasnt until MF took full control of Dronningborg that the later red bodied 30 / 40 series began to be built to the same standards as 700 / 800 series machines. I've been out of the industry for 20 + plus years, so do not know what modern MF combines are like, the only thing I know is that there are nowhere near as many about as there were in the 70's /80's and 90's.

Don't do it. Doesn't matter what age, what model, just don't do it. If you want to experience a few weeks of extreme pain and misery every season when everyone else is happily combining I'm sure the collective power of TFF can arrange for someone to turn up at midday every day for 2 weeks during the summer and kick you in the shins instead. It would be better in the long run. If you really can't accept the good advice of many other TFF members who are advising you to buy a second hand Deere, Claas or New Holland and want to be thought of as a bit of a weirdo forever more then buy an axial flow. Believe me, you will live longer and need far less valium to get through the average summer.

I used to be a demonstrator driver on a MF27 when they first came out, mine was Red and Chocolate but within a few days of work the Green and Orange paint started to show through. Initially MF fitted their Frog Mouth sieve but when I changed it for the original it improved the performance. My combine was severely underpowered, it was only 100 HP but in a 5 tonne to the acre crop of wheat I still managed to get 18 tonnes an hour out of it! The only breakdowns I had were a drum belt when combining oats in the rain and a track rod end that snapped outside a pub at 1 am. As the police had been informed I declined the offer of a pint from the landlord. I ran the machine from early July to Mid/Late September without many days stopped.
