Horsch seed motor - anyone changed it before?

@Steevo check radar speed is roughly the same as tractor forward speed, do a calibration test and count the revolutions when doing it, divide your weight by revolutions and make sure it's counting seed unit rpm right... I'm sure you'd be already doing the basics already, tractor running when calibrating and main power loom connections are good.... they are fussy on voltage and amp draw, looking at your last reply you can ignore most of what I wrote, check main power harness, below 11.6v a lot of sensors will fail to signal accurately, might sign an over draw on motor, or it might just be your motor speed sensor is too far away from trigger wheel or is giving up the ghost.

That’s interesting…if your radar speed matches your gps speed then it can only be that motor speed sensor can’t it? As you say-the calibration speed is usually 60 so it presumably ‘thinks’ it’s doing 60 whereas in reality doing 53/54. Weights would tie up but the ‘distance(=rotations)’ travelled would be wrong. But only by 10-12% by those figures…..unless it’s an intermittent fault 🤷‍♂️

Radar speed was slightly out when I phoned Horsch so they talked me through changing it which was helpful.

I agree about 53/54 only being 10% out though.

Hopefully the ‘i’ icon info will help because I can compare that to the GPS area and also see how far a bag goes. That should isolate things.

At this rate I’ll need to come up with a plan of which things to do in which order. 😂

Thank you for the suggestions. Good to cover every eventuality.

Dividing the calibration weight by revolutions, is there anywhere I can compare that figure to?

It’s so annoying isn’t it. A fantastic drill turned into a paperweight by something so ridiculous. Come back accord metering with a land wheel; all is forgiven! To be fair it’s maybe worth enquiring about a new motor price; I’ve found Horsch to be refreshingly affordable on most bits. Although not that big loom that connects your muller to the drill-£500 when I asked the other day! My insulation tape repair will have to last a bit longer methinks…but then seed pipe is cheaper from Horsch than aftermarket…

Another daft idea: is the meter definitely turning on every run?
i.e. is the drill shown as 'being in work' on the muller screen when the hydraulics tells it it's in the lowered position, it's not going down the field thinking it's in transport on some runs?

Try RS components. They certainly do the cable and the pins for a freeflow. Can you see the break? Join the wires up if so?

@Steevo sorry to barge in on your thread.
I have a 2004 CO which has a similar problem in that the seed rate that its calibrated too is not what its drilling (seems to be about 10% out on the low side). I have changed the bearing in the housing on the opposite side of the seed roller to the motor as I noticed it was very stiff and maybe that had caused the motor to overload & damage the winding/brushes.

Mine has the Horsch Drill Manager Agtron system but the motor/metering system looks very much like the metering system with your later Mueller set up in hte photos above.

I was wondering if you had changed the motor and if it cured your problem. I have been quoted in excess of £500 for a new motor. I wondered if David King could recondition it...?

Just calibrate it and add the 10%, on ours sees to under sow by a similar amount

@Steevo any further progress.

Kind of you to ask, thank you.

To be honest no news at all.

I need to make time to speak to Horsch again and discuss it.

Thanks to your help with the motor I have proven the motor is not the issue.

And using a spare job computer I have proven that it cannot be that at fault either.

So frustratingly I’m as confused as ever…..but thankfully I haven’t had to spend thousands of pounds buying components in order to get to that stage or I’d be feeling pretty sick.

I hate problems that only occur when it’s doing work, especially a time critical job like drilling.

That is very weird, as you have ruled out the components. It looks like an intermittent fault which can be very frustrating to find. Hopefully you can get it resolved and let us all know what we have missed. :scratchhead:
