Yet another large dairy herd listed for sale today,
Local auctioneers books now booked up with whole herd sales to the point they cant handle many more this summer,
What is driving so many herds both large and small to be dispersed currently?
Thought it would be a good idea now that harvest 2022 is well underway to have a thread with grain yields/ variety of Barley/ Wheat etc all in one place.

In my own very local area 3 dairy farms have gone or are about to sell the herd in the last 12 months, all three have been driven out by the low returns for the amount of work and/or the investment needed to carry on milking not being worthwhile...
Looking for the cylinder that sits on the outside disc on the bed for a Lely mower ( 240/280 models etc )
Or failing that a scrap mower for parts if there is one sitting in a hedge etc somewhere.

As above what breed of ram would be best put with Full Mouth Swaledale ewes that will produce a decent 44/46 liveweight R grade lamb??
Ideally an easy lambing breed with get up and go as well.
Also what lambing % would be average for the above on a lowland farm?

I assume you guys/ gals have heard by now that ALL sales of dairy cows via markets have been banned..
Also all sales of beef breeding stock and sheep breeding stock sales via the markets have been banned as well.
Talk today at Sedgemoor livestock market was that ALL prime and store livestock markets will be stopped from operating from some point next week!
Apparently Wales are intending to shut their livestock markets from Monday.
Apparently it was touch and go yesterday if todays market would be...
Not seen any in years.
But cutting a 2nd cut high clover ley today I counted about 24/25 of them in about 90 minutes of mowing! all in different parts of the field/ along the road beside the field.
Anyone else seeing a lot more snakes than normal?

Have a field of winter oats, in a field that has been long term maize.
Been clean as a whistle so other than a herbicide has had no other treatments as the aim is to grow it as cheaply as possible.

Been announced today that the historic 800 year old cattle market at Newton Abbot will be closing down.
Reason is the landowners = the local council are selling the land so a hotel/ parking can be built on it.
