Is anyone having any problems with genus valiant everyday teat spray. Apparently they have changed it. Cows teats went sore and red and now the skin is peeling off. Been a right pain milking.
What do you think it costs to rear a heifer to calving at 2 years old. Boss where i milk at been at a meeting this week and was saying tonight that they were told roughly about £1950. Seems alot, are they on ad lib feed all their lives.
Think it wad Kite who did the figures.
Finally after what seems like forever we are going to get a new mart built at Darlington. Finance is sorted and they are hoping to get a start in 10/12 weeks time and moved in by 1st Nov 19. Will make a massive difference as the old place is not fit for purpose. Big sale yesterday and parking...
Made some top notch hay this year and the wife is soaking it in water for the horses. Apparently it is to lower the sugars. Can't win, may as well make rubbish next year.
I know alot of farms have post boxes at the end of the lane. Just a warning, gangs are targeting them and stealing post. In the Teesdale area a lot have been targeted. We didn't realise that they had stolen a new cheque book until the bank rang today to say someone had tried to cash a cheque for...
Was told today that some summer grazing on grass parks had made £200 an acre, up 30 on last year. Surely this is stupid and makes farm rents look reasonable.
Had toothache over the Easter weekend, kept me awake at night. Managed to get an appointment today at dentists. Was expecting to get it taken out there and then but oh no have to go back on the bloody 4th of June. Could have had the job done in 10 mins. Is it normal to have to wait so long for...
Currently calving a batch of blue heifers and having problems with them. They start calving fine but then just don't seem to push. Had to pull 8 out of the last 9. Calves are small lims and come out easy. They are good mothers and calves are up and sucking quickly. Had pre calver tubs outside...
Got a calf with its tongue hanging out, saliva dribbling like a tap and also can't see properly. Got a suckler calf outside the same. Vet thinks its some sort of nerve damage. This one inside, bucket reared. Any ideas?
Currently have 30 blue suckler cows and 1 lim bull. Was thinking of adding another 10 heifers next spring. Would 40 be too many for 1 bull? He seems too have got them all incalf this year ok.
Just heard that a neighbour has been killed in a round baler accident while baling straw. Another reminder of how dangerous our industry is. Only be in his 40s with a family.
