£400 for spare wheel!!

Is it actually the car starting battery that’s in the boot or are they a mild Hybrid? When we were looking at cars last summer we looked at new models and got quotes just out of interest and some models were last of a run as new ones were coming through without spare wheel as that’s where the battery was going to make the car a mild hybrid in order to pass emissions criteria. Kia was one of them as they were going 24v electric assist type of thing.
Mine it's the starting battery

Always have "spare wheel"crap off New car salespeople.
"If you want a spare wheel you got to buy the "spare wheel kit "as additional extras at x price ",
as stated above ,most/all new cars come with go go juice and inflator only now.

Most cars still have a spare wheel pan still.

If you got a flat ,nine times out of ten ,tyre either off rim ,or damaged ,therefore you can pump juice in from then to kingdom come and you be in the same place now.

Even if no place for a spare, just put in boot along with jack and extendable socket drive and gets you or family out of trouble.

Any how, deal done drive off go back few weeks later to dealership after price quotes for a spare space saver wheel/tyre and buy from the parts dept. easily NO FUSS.

Happens with them all ,not just a particular make or dealership?

Alot of places on Ebay will sell complete spare tyre kits for alot of models. Space saver, jack, brace etc. Bout £90 I paid for qashqai stuff. Nissan want a sh!load more for their version.
In the qashqai they have left a space for space tyre ?‍♂️, instead it housed the tyre gunk, compressor, triangle and first aid kit

Some might say its your own fault for buying a Nissan....

All new cars since last year or the year before have standard fit TPMS systems which warn the driver of any tyre with a puncture. This should, given a driver having half a brain cell, prevent a very high proportion of tyres that are damaged beyond repair.

Possibly but even if your notified, everything don't usually happen when your close to a tyre fitting station.

From later this year, all cars will be fitted with SOS systems connected to standard sat-nav and through a built-in modem, to a call centre. They will all automatically call emergency services in the event of a severe crash but can be manually activated to call recovery services.

Besides which it is far easier to use the gunk and compressor provided than to actually change a large wheel, even without calling for the RAC/AA/Green Flag or whatever. Nearly all new cars provide free membership for the first three years and many, including ordinary brands like Nissan and Honda, provide another year's free membership with every scheduled major service.

Free, have you never heard the term there’s no such thing as a free lunch, you can bet the customer is paying for it in the price somewhere allthough no doubt the dealers/manufacturers will have negotiated a better deal than an individual could obtain for a large amount of buisness.

Well, they can choose to have their cars serviced at independent garages and not have the extra breakdown and recovery cover. I have found the franchised dealers to be very competitive on service prices.

Speak as you find, I have been using an excellent small independent garage for many years, ever since a fudge up on a service at the main dealers resulted in terminal engine failure on my car and they wouldn’t accept any responsibility.

New cars possibly.
Plenty of older ones about that will need a human to do things to them also for generations to come too.

The original mini had the battery in the boot ,well in a pocket in the rear wing.
How many new young drivers would know how to change a wheel anyway,if they get a flat or breakdown ,they just call recovery co.

Changed one last week for someone else, car was a VW Tiguan had everything I needed even a space saver wheel

That's hardly likely. The vehicle park churn rate is currently as long as it has ever been at between ten and twelve years, but that is about to shorten dramatically with the introduction of alternative fuel vehicles driven by legislation phasing out IC engine production within a defined period.

They have only just got use to Lister engines in some parts of the world so we guess your way out there???

Earlier I was talking to someone who enquired about a new Astra at the local main dealer. The sales guy showed him 3 which they had registered in their own name to
Meet end of year sales targets and they were on sale for what the company paid for them or so he said.
When asked about spare wheel the sales guy said the spare wheel was replaced by a tube of sealer and compressor
and if he wanted a spare wheel
It would involve fixing brackets in boot to accommodate space
saver wheel at a cost of £400
as the original accommodation for wheel now locates battery
I would say there must be a big
Voltage drop from battery to
Starter assuming the absolute minimum size cable is used
Also the sales guy said he could change car after 3 or 4
Years with still out standing finance just keep on paying
I was baffled by that
Does anyone still even buy Holden/Daewoo/Opel/Vauxhall???
There as popular here as Rolf Harris....?
