‘It’s ok, we are only pushing our bikes on this footpath so it’s ok”

Smile and look the other way. Unless prevented by local by-law or another regulatory order, the proving the 'trespass' (assuming you're the landowner - if not then you have no cause for action) is a legal minefield

And unless it's an ongoing problem, why would you want to take this to a lawyer?

I have responded to that moment many times, never in a dignified way though.
The reason it has never been dignified is that if they are pushing them I have just seen them get off when they spotted me. Don't think I would mind if they just pushed them but they don't.
Even have the barstewards come whizzing down the apple rows when in there working.

They were from 8 miles away or so, they had a digital map, I assume folk plan their leisure routes first But clearly not.

i have them on cctv cycling where they can, only reason they were pushing is steep hill / road bikes in crops / mud!

they were trying to get to a bridleways about a mile away, over two farms,

when I asked them what they were on they both agreed it was a footpath and looked shifty when agreeing that you can’t have bikes on footpaths.

it’s not really about the harm they would do, it’s more the principle that you can’t cycle on a footpath and if they do it then suddenly it gets shared on social media and loads turn up ‘pushing their bikes’.

they did offer to let me come and cycle around their garden though!

if it was an emergency or similar then fine but why plan a leisurely day out in the countryside and deliberately look to go cross country where you shouldn’t over 10 fields or so!?

But isn't pedal power quite legal on rural footpaths. And what about pushchairs -even though they have to carry them over boggy bits.

These folk buy our produce. And those that pay tax, or would like to earn enough to pay tax, help provide our subsidies.

But don't get het up abut it.

No. They key is in the name - FOOTpath. Pushchairs can come if they wish but it’s hardly push chair friendly.

they may pay our subsidies but as we often say, many sectors are subsidised in our lives.

this is about principles and giving an inch can end up costing you dear in time.

Nothing bad about pushing a bike on a footpath. Riding them on a footpath is another matter. Just my view.

perhaps but the only reason they were pushing was because they couldn’t peddles due to having road bikes in a field! Been pedalling where they could..

See the Strava thread for the problems that can start to happen with "sharing" of routes!!
