913hp from the biggest John Deere tractor yet

Written by Justin Roberts from Agriland

The latest John Deere 9RX 830 now packs an impressive 913hp and 4,234 NM of torque thanks to the JD18X engine, a powerplant that was launched in 2022 which, despite its power output and displacement, is still a relatively uncomplex straight six-motor.

It might be expected that such a machine was destined for the prairies of the North American continent, but the company points out that it is less than 3m wide and is therefore suitable for the west and central European markets.

Big numbers also come in the form of oil flow capacity; the triple hydraulic pump option has a maximum flow rate of up to 636L/min and is coupled to the Intelligent Power Management (IPM) system which provides up to an additional 40hp if required.

Transmission is via a new fully-mechanical e2 PowerShift unit which, in conjunction with some efficiency management software, is claimed to utilise the high engine performance and torque of the new 9RX models.

The 21 gears are closely spaced, allowing operators to set the appropriate speed for different tasks.

Despite the maximum ballasting weight being 38,100kg, John Deere assures us that the minimum ground pressure level remains at 0.58 kg/cm², which is comparable to the current smaller 9RX models.

John Deere enhances cab comfort

The new CommandView 4 Plus cab is said to give operators significantly improved comfort and visibility, as well as a substantial increase in cab floor space.

It is also equipped with a new cab suspension, featuring three degrees of freedom, combined with an isolated subframe, ensuring that the operator experiences less noise and vibration.

John Deere has also included ActiveCommand Steering which adjusts the steering effort based on ground speed, ensuring easy and precise handling.

Lock-to-lock only requires 3.5 turns of the steering wheel in the field, while on the road, a change of ratio means that five turns are required for lock-to-lock, giving greater control at higher speeds.

Fuel capacity approaches swimming pool scale with 1,952L of diesel being carried aboard, yet John Deere claims that this can be filled in less than four minutes when using its fast fuel system.

The company also assures us that daily maintenance points can be easily accessed from the ground or via the new service catwalk around the cab.

The extended hydraulic oil service interval of 4,000 hours and an optional reversible fan further extend the tractors’ working time.

Latest precision agriculture capabilities

As always with John Deere, the 9RX tractor features plenty of smart farming capabilities, including the 32.5cm (12.8″) high-definition G5 CommandCenter and the full integration of the company’s precision ag technology, with full ISOBUS compatibility.

Standard features such as JDLink Connectivity, documentation, and DataSync increase overall operating performance.

The free John Deere Operations Center serves as a central platform to connect machines, operators, and fields, facilitating data import and cooperation with third parties.
