Accord drill seed rate issue

I was drilling some oats yesterday with my 'new to me' accord drill & when calibrated with 85 turns of the wheel, I couldn't get more than 4.645kg in the bucket, 46kg/ha when opened up max to 110 on the barrel setting.

What could potentially cause this? Seed rates seemed right when I was drilling grass. My first time for cereals with this drill.

I thought I heard something before about a half rate gear? Are there different drive gears for these drills?

Assuming it looks like this:

The red cog on the left of the picture wants to be pushed in (like the pic) for 'normal' metering for cereals etc. For grass and small rates you pull it out on the shaft to engage that bigger cog below it to enable 'micro' metering which hopefully is why you can't get your correct seed rate.
I would also calibrate it for say a good 10kg under what you want as once you drilling and the machine is vibrating it always seems to put a fraction more on than when doing a standing calibration. Also for oats take the grids out of the bottom of the tank if you have them in.

Youve got her in low gear (for small seeds)

Mine doesnt have the red cog, but both the big cogs are engaged

Probably not causing your calibration issue, but beware that the mesh grid in the hopper can stop oats flowing down to the metering system so has to be taken out, but just in case tap the bottom of the hopper just to see if it’s empty 🤔

you dont have the 2 speeds just high speed

oats can be barstewards
i remember years ago i couldnt calibrate the drill, the dressing on the seed was so sticky it wouldnt run when i turned the handle with any speed
once i calibrated it slowly i got the rate but that also ment i had to drill the field at 4mph:facepalm:
worked out spot on but f**kin slow :banghead:

I dont actually have any grids in this drill, its a Vicon lz 401 but with the accord metering system

From what I can see it only has the 1 speed on this drill. I cant see anything that should be restricting the barrel either?

Guess it's got half a tonne of seed in it? So you can't open the lid to see the condition of the fluted roller. I've the same drill, used it a fortnight ago, had to change the fluted roller and the rubber strip, rats had been in there! Calibrated to 75kg/ acre on oats, no 80ish on the scale. And worked perfect.

I've just empied the hopper to have a look but the roller looks ok & the rubber strip doesn't look perticularly bad either

I've had issues calibrating my accord for wheat and barley this year. I've been up over 80 for 185kh/ha wheat when normally I'd be on 55ish.
I spoke to Andy guest incase something was going wrong with the metering system and he said I was the 3rd person that week to have had issues of either not getting a high enough rate or was way off on the chart.
