Accord metering unit

Are there different versions of the unit available?

Mines due an overhaul, I've been struggling with putting fert through it and I think it's on its limits at 6m wide on the maize drill.

I remember a claydon comment years ago saying they use the accord unit but a higher capacity one, do they also use a single unit on a 6m machine?

in pictures online, any 6m machines have 2 metering units with half the drill each.
can't you gear it with changing sprockets on the chain to get it to go faster? I think there's usually a chart in any manual with the gearings.

I've had a look through the claydon manuals and its definitely only running 1 metering unit on a 6m, I've never read about them giving bother so must work fine.

I'd be interested to know if it was just a standard unit or upgraded in any way?

I can gear it to turn faster, my worry was if i put it in a higher gear the motor would be turning too slow when I'm starting off or doing slow awkward bits.

Claydon use std old style Accord metering devices not the new one that is only available on the new style KV drills it isn't available to there parts customers. The Weaving one is a big unit similar in design to a KV and is made in Spain sorry can't remember the companies name at this moment but it is who make there original sprung tine drills not the sabre tine which weaving manufacture themselves but using these metering devices etc

Good info thanks 👍

I didn't know about Weaving using a similar one.

Is a standard accord unit usually ok with fert or does it need a different cell? Mine started jamming up with fert dust I think, caused no end of bother.

What's different with a fert spec? Is it just the bearings?

Same hopper is used for seed on the combi drill.

Main difference is stainless bearings.
I've just a standard unit, and change the bearings every year. they don't last long.
I have had the flutes themselves bung up this year if that's what you mean. that messed up the calibration a bit. 🤦‍♀️ fertiliser came in a green and white bag.... it's definitely rougher on the unit, you can feel the difference when calibrating it between a good compound and a rough blend.

I wasn't on it at the time but it calibrated fine and was ok for a few fields then the rds started alarming for working too hard. It even started chipping some of the drive teeth and slipping.

Cleaned it up a few times but it just got worse, I've put it down to poor quality MOP dust jamming the sides, either that or it got in the bearings 🤔

Claydon get on fine at 6m so I'll just stick with what I've got and rebuild it 👍👍

So if it's electronic (I don't know much about these ones) is the flutes getting filled with dust, so it either opening wider or running faster to keep up the rate, then maxing out.

It's one I've converted to RDS Artemis, it's worked faultlessly for about 5 years on seed, this is the first time on fert.

It was getting overload alarms for the electric motor, the force required to turn it not the seed rate, although he was close to the limits for max speed/rate at this time.
